    New Build Development Pricing?

One of our sparks moved into his new build house a few months ago and found that none of the downlights are fire rated!

    New Build Development Pricing?

Your price is about the same as ours would be. We lost out on 5 x 3bed semi-detached with a similar spec last month. The firm that won them are doing them for £2250.00 each!

how to get text on new line in forum?

Works for me too but I was too shy to ask :shame:

What has happened to the trade?

We've worked for the builder for around 12 years. They hit a quiet period and discovered that they can submit cheaper prices by using this "spark." The blurb on their website states that "we only use NICEIC approved electricians." Looks like I've got nothing to lose by reporting them does it?

What has happened to the trade?

I couldn't agree more. Not just limited to domestic now, we just lost a lighting job at a school to one! He's happy to work for 80 quid a day and let the builder supply the materials. He was also happy to extend a 6mm shower circuit, fit a 9.5kw shower and add 15 amp fusewire to the existing 30...

Stroma Certification Scheme Registration fees with Stroma!!!!!

The more I read, the more I realise what a mess we're all in with these schemes! We've been fully approved with the NIC since 1994. More people have heard of Trust a Trader.com than the NICEIC!

Just finished my first week subcontracting

It used to be 45p for the first 10,000 miles then 25p (I think) for the rest. You have to work out if it's better for you to claim mileage or claim running cost, you can't claim both!

Just finished my first week subcontracting

The first time they tried to claim around 12k in Employers NI & PAYE payments because they didn't see our subbies as subbies. We argued for around six months about it and they withdrew the claim. They returned about two years later and tried to claim 22k but failed again. They have silly ideas...

Just finished my first week subcontracting

To answer the original question, I always used to get a 12 hour day when working away as a subby so that's what I paid mine (before HMRC stuck its oar in :tongue3: )

Just finished my first week subcontracting

That's my fault. I see it as an employer, who as you rightly state would be responsible for all the costs. It would be a lot easier if HMRC either left us alone or got their act together and made it a level playing field for all.

Just finished my first week subcontracting

I wasn't meaning to have a go at you, it's HMRC who get my back up! Sorry if I came across the wrong way. We havn't used subbies for over a year now because of HMRC and their unrealistic guidelines. I just think that if HMRC read your post and saw that you are getting paid by the hour, paid...

Just finished my first week subcontracting

We've had two HMRC inspections and both ended up with them telling us that we owed them a small fortune by paying subbies who should have been PAYE because they didn't meet these guidelines. Employed or self-employed?In order to answer this question it is necessary to determine whether the...

I doubt that HMRC would see you as a subby.

Do I need to test an old wiring installation?

I quoted a similar job a couple of months ago, the installation was a mess and the remedial work was almost as much a a rewire. Never heard back but found out that the woman had a "spark" change the consumer unit for £175 cash! We can't win.

    Non paying, infuriating customer.

I've given up doing small private jobs. Unless you get paid up front or on completion it's not worth the hassle.
