    Naughty naughty.

It is a SWA gland where the cable attaches to the metal clad CU. The solar PV installer has cut away the outer sheath from the SWA to fit a BS591 clamp onto the armour instead of just retro fitting an "earthing nut" or a banjo washer.

    5A 3-Pin Sockets

I could also be looked at as 1 lighting point and therefore be assumed to realistically carry a max 100W lighting load or about 0.5A load well within 5A.

    Water bond to earth electrode.

Yes it an exported TNC-S via the SWA armour. I would have difficulty in changing it to TT now since a new solar PV installation is using this cable to feed back to the main house and incoming supply. (see my other thread "Naughty naughty")

    Naughty naughty.

Found this today during a PIR. This was part of a recent solar PV install. Was it too much to ask to install a banjo washer on the SWA.

    Water bond to earth electrode.

On a domestic job today and came across an unusual bonding setup. The main house is TNC-S, supply to remote home office via SWA cable. The remote building has an oil fired boiler and the copper pipe work has a 10mm bond cable going out through the external wall to an earth electrode. The...

good drill for chasing advice domestic

I have the Bosch GBH 2-26DFR. It has quick release chucks for SDS or keyless, good power, 3 year warranty. And I would also recommend a SDS scutch chisel, just about the best bit for chasing & sinking.

calculating Zs with only R2 reading

You would enter the highest r1 + r2 measurement onto the cert, whether that is the ring part or the radial spur part of the circuit. It is just the same as a spur from the middle of the ring, the mcb is classed as just another cable junction. If you were to split the ring at a plug socket for...

60 amp feed for a HOT TUB

Does it definatley need a 60A feed? My hot tub runs on 4mm SWA and a 32A MCB. It is a canadian hot tub. In the instruction manual it states - "Americas 60Hz - 240v. Circuit breaker - 50A. Number of wires - 4." "Europe 50Hz - 230v. Circuit breaker - 32A. Number of wires - 3." This seems to...

calculating Zs with only R2 reading

Yes it is possible, but how can you be certain that the Zs is correct unless you actually test R1, R2 & Ze. Why don't you have a Zs measurement or all the required measurements to calculate Zs?

    5A round pin sockets

How do we stand with using the round pin 5A sockets on a lighting circuit with a 6A MCB? Will the sockets be classed as overloaded (probably only under fault conditions) due to being protected by a 6A MCB? Is the only way around this to place a fused spur before each 5A socket or would it be...

    Car 12v amps -- help!

You are aware that with the engine running the alternator will push the vehicles 12v upto a possible 14.2v. The 200mA & 500mA are the maximum current usage of the devices and are only relevant for fuse selection (as already mentioned) or for minimum output current of an AC - DC convertor /...

    Spur problem?

Not the ring imbalance monster again!!!!! If 2.5mm2 T&E is rated at 27A (clipped direct) then how can a 20A fused spur overload either leg of the ring? As mentioned in post 3 it is spured off the upstairs ring which is usually very lightly loaded.
