You definatly need an electrician for this as after the change everything will need to be tested and certified using the proper equipment.
Post your location and someone maybe near by to help you out

Hi guys,
Ive got some left over T8 led tubes from a job, changes were made and they decided to have down lights instead, but i had already ordered the tubes (doh).
They have been sitting in the garage for ages now, so i thought id see if anyone was interested before they go on ebay.
They are...
It was definatly a lost neutral, i saw the link had been removed and based on the explanations given on here and the problems the hotel has had it all make sence.
The company responsible for the problems is NIC registared i wish i could give you the name, when i read it on the cert i thought...
Cheers, its all making sence now, and that does explain how they have been up and running for the past year untill a recent big event at one end of the building, then stuff caught fire.
Thanks very much
Cheers rob, I get the rough idea of what your saying but what do you mean by tie them together?
Does anyone have any idea about my question on post 4?
Cheers,
Tim

Hi biff,
The rcbos were installed with the new db (the one with the dodgy tails) in the refurb a year ago.
I guessed it would be returning through the earth, but what if it is not a tncs system? (just trying to cover all bases untill i know more about the job)
What would cause the voltage to...
Im working for someone else atm and thats what ive advised, but i know they wont pay for it as the bodged refurb was only a year ago.
Ive counted over £1000 of led lamps blown already lol
I am with you on that, but unless its a tncs system (i think unlikly on a building this size but not impossible) where is the n-e link? In the electronics maybe?
Follow up question:
There was an AC board that was really buzzin, we took the cover off and measured the current on each phase.
Red 100A
Yellow 2A
Blue 2A
I turned off all the breakers on the red phase and 1 by 1 the buzzin got quieter (each breaker was pulling approx 15A) then once they...
Hi guys,
Today i went to a hotel that had lost its neutral at the main incommer, and has been presumed out for around a year. The neutral link had been undone during a previous refurb and tightened up in the undone position. The problem has only been found after a small fuse board from the...
Cheers ben, thats just what i wanted to hear. Im sure ill be fine with the wiring and panel side of it, trying to fit more regs into my head is going to be the challenge though.

Hi guys,
Im looking at getting into fire alarms as another string to my bow and would like to know your opinions on a suitable course.
I have little experiance with commercial fa systems but a guy im working with knows them quite well so ill be picking his brains.
I am a qualified spark...
A person doesnt have to crawl in with the cables, they can be pulled in using rods, but as theres laminate and tiles its unlikly it will be a useable route.
External is the way to go, it will be cheaper and cause less destruction.

Unfortunatly you cant compare your house with the bloke down the road.
The regs have changed since 2005 (17th edition 2008) and bonding requirements have changed.
Bonding MUST be up to scratch before any electrical work can be completed.
Check out this from the esc...
Why not strip out the internals of the db and use it as a jb for your crimps, then mount your new one below it.
Then you dont have to mess around with the endless amount of conduits

Hi guys,
I admit this is just me being to lazy to go to the van and get my regs book.
The reg about not using an rcd as a main switch, does it specify a ma rating or anything about time delayed or TT system exemptions?
I ask as i was planning to replace a main switch with a 100ma type s rcd...
