CU quote - no bonding. Probably lost job

Good post Short Circuit. Bonding can be a PITA sure, but when people are happy to pay thousands for a nice shiney new kitchen or bathroom, why do they look all agast at having their electrical installation made safe? If they don't want to pay... just walk away!

    Tools stolen

Sorry to hear about the theft mate. Got me thinking, do we know exactly what is in our toolboxes? I have a rough idea but if I had to put in a claim I'm sure I would forget things. A while ago I took all the tools out each box, laid them on the floor and took a picture. Probably need to do...

    Drill/Driver

The Metabo has arrived and on the basis of a day's use, what a great kit of kit it seems to be. Nice case with space for drill bits etc. too. Metabo SB18LTX 18V Cordless Impuls Lithium Ion Combi Drill £189.95

    Drill/Driver

Thanks Markie. Having looked around, I've ordered a Metabo SB18LTX. Was £30 more than the Milwaukee but three years warranty on the batteries swayed it. I'll post a review once it arrives. I must say from an environmental point of view it's pretty bad that it costs no more to buy a new...

    Heatshrink size's

Good thread. But why not consider using Wago connectors - can be put in inaccessible locations, and much quicker to do.

    Drill/Driver

Batteries on my 18v Bosch are in need of replacing, and the prices are a joke - you can get a new drill and two batteries for less than the cost of two replacement batteries. I usually prefer Bosch kit, but these batteries have not lasted all that long, a cheap makita which I bought before this...

    Ancient supply feed & cutout

Looks like ceramic rewirable carriers. DNO should replace FOC. Not immediately unsafe but would be good to get it upgraded, I would imagine 60A per phase. DNO will probably want to isolate underground beforehand, so prepare for hole in your driveway!

Electric Showers in France - are they allowed?

Spent quite a bit of time over there and not once seen an electric shower. They do seem to have a fair bit of unvented hot water, and all MCBs are double pole. All seems quite sensible to me (plus appliance plugs orientated so you can't tred on them which I think is a top idea!)

    IEE 17th edition 1st amendment

I might be wrong (please tell me if so!) but are they going to make the amendment freely available as a PDF here: IEE Wiring Regulations updates - IET Electrical Looks like they did for the last edition, or am I being optimistic?

    scheme registration

When I joined Elecsa they were happy with just the one job and advised me to notify it after I'd joined. Very nice chap who assessed me too.

should i sell my regs book?

Totally agree with Brucelee, why should we pay to buy an "amended" version when the differences are probably naff-all anyway and probably little less than changes in chapters headings etc. And why can't they make a free (or at least low cost) PDF version like the guidance of electricity at work?

    Good Electrical Books

Hi Jay and welcome to the forum. What sort of thing exactly are you looking for? The OSG is good as is the Electrician's Guide to the Building Regulations. For testing, try Kitcher and Guidance Note 3.
