Hi, I'm a novice looking for advice.
I need to replace the fluorescent tube and starter on my American pinball machine.
The current tube and starter operate at 110v
The tube is a F18T 8CW which seems to be available in UK so I've ordered one of those.
The existing starter is a UL brand with...
So Today I checked into some pub lodgings in Manchester and plugged my toothbrush charger in the room. As soon as I turned the socket on it made a massive bang and took out the electrics. I was shocked to learn that the receptionist was aware this was a reoccurring fault and I noticed scorch...
Hi everyone
We have a couple of NEXT ceiling lights in the living and dining room. Both the transformers have gone and replacement transformers are about £35 each, however I'm worried they may keep blowing and its going to get costly to replace them often. A friend suggested removing the...

1 electrician says we should remove all the control system...
came across a strange one today. Had a 3 core cable to a gas boiler and there was a fault on the boiler so when tested got 145v across the live and switch wire. Disconnected the switch wire at one end and still got 145v. Thought bad insulation so replaced cable. Still there ! Touched the end it...
Hi,
First post on this forum so please excuse my lack of knowledge.
I have a 12v 300watt water heater /hand wash with fold down bowl (type fitted to some work vans etc) that I thought about fitting to my caravan.
Here comes the lack of knowledge,
1. If I connected it to the 12v in the...
Hi all just wondering if someone can clarify something for me. I'm looking at fitting a switch onto a din rail, I can't find exactly what I need so it looks like I'll have to fit a switch disconnector. My question relates to the operating voltage.
On the data sheet attached it says rated...
Firstly, hi, Lavrentiu here, live in sunny Cyprus where thankfully we have the same wiring/setup as UK which is a good thing
I moved to a new place few days ago, this flat has some groovy halogen spotlights by the entrance door but unfortunately none worked. After buying a few new lamps...
Hi folks new to this but have a question . What are the circumstances that have to be met to fit a 240v fan in zone 1 . I have read that it's acceptable if the fan is ipx4 rated and is on a rcd. I've read that if the manufacturer states the fan is suitable for zone 1 and rcd protected then it is...
Hello everyone,
This is my first post, so please bear with me. I am trying to work out how the motor to my table saw is wired. I bought it second hand and I think the previous owner has messed with it. One of the brush holders had been forced in and was touching the commutator. I am wondering...
Hi there,
for a friend's boat, he has constant access to 240v shore power (and a galvanic isolator), but still wants batteries for whenever shore power stops working, or if he wants to go and cruise for a day or two. He needs a charger to keep the batteries topped up, and an inverter for...
Hi Guys,
Im currently quoting a job to install dimmable downlighters.
Firstly, can I use 240v downlighters with dimmable LED bulbs
Secondly, can I use a standard dimmer switch or does it have to be a low voltage one?
Thanks as always
Dan

Hi guys

Hi all,
Today I was given a yellow 240v extension reel to use.
Now if I'm not mistaken yellow flex indicates 110v.
So how does this comply?
If I was to use this on a construction site everybody would assume it is 110v whereas in reality it's not it's 240v!
Thoughts please :)
We are taking over a building after commissioning and I found this install of which a macerator is plugged in to. I wouldn’t install this way and the glands and metal clad covers are not even fitted properly so the IP rating is non-existent. I have to tackle them on the install but looking...
