My adiabatic maths says that for a 16mm main conductor, assumed Ze of 0.2, 80A 88:3 CPD, k as 115.... the earth only needs to be 3.16mm therefore the 6mm in a 6242YH 16mm is more than sufficient.
Anyone disagree?
Changing to built in double fan oven. 45A cooker switch which is supplied with 6mm from 20A mcb . Double fan oven is rated at 4.1kw.
4100/230=17.82
Would the flex be ok as it can carry up to 25A and less than a metre be used.
What do you guys suggest?
Has anyone got the big green book on hand?? What's the maximum current carrying capacity for each of the cables mentioned above? Clipped direct.
I have a 63amp test rig suppl from three phase board which customer wants moving from directly next to board to 15m away. What size cable??

I know this has been talked about somewhere before but what are your thoughts?
I have seen the run that a re-wire would need and it isn't good!! It is not a long run and the cable comes out of the wall in the loft and staright into the 45A pull switch so not running through loads of insulation.
Been called out to an existing customer today where a 30amp Wylex fuse carrier had burnt out. After sorting that out i proceeded to talk to the client and ended up with the job of replacing the fuseboxes with MCB board. (currently 2 x 8way wylex units)
After noting that the tails were ok and it...
Hi Guys
Any solutions for an outlet plate for hob and "plugtop" cooker. I see click do a duel outlet plate but I need 6mm to outlet plate and socket for the oven.
(I do not want to run the oven off the kitchen circuit, hence the question)
Thanks in advance
Regards, David
I have 1 roll of each, still got cellophane on.them. as a bonus will give the partial rolls of brown and grey. Offers invited. Collection preferred from leeds. Thanks

Struck me recently as to why we use 6mm T&E for a 32A cooker circuit, when generally 4mm (clipped direct) would be sufficient. Is this a historical thing with BS3036 fuses?
hi a landlord asked me after eicr test which picked up the cooker switch was directly over the hob meaning needed moving he asked if ok to join the cable in the ceiling using a proper junction box and re directing the cable i advised wasnt the best but given its a cottage with mostly stone...
Hello again...
I have just bought 50m's of twin and earth (6242yh) from e-bay.
It was advertised as 4mm2 but the sticker on the front is a little worn and is not readable apart from what looks abit like 4mm2 (not at all clear though).
The reason I'm a bit unsure what size it is, is because on...
i was asked to pull in a shower cable and leave in wall for future as customer has been roked into other work, so makes sense now as they have the room.
9.5kw shower on 6mm is fine according to osg upto 43m on ref method c. i only have an 8m run and is in rafters with kingspan but kingspan wont...
Hello all,
I have a 2 way CU in my shed with a 16A MCB for the radial (3 double sockets) and 6A MCB for the lights (four of them, max usage 330w). I have 20 metres of SWA 4mm2 which I will take to the house from the shed and then use 4mm2 in trunking to the CU.
I then presumed I would have to...
Hi people got some cable knocking around in my shed that I thought id put on here before it goes on ebay, 50 metres 10mm t&e and 50 metres 6mm t&e both in new colours. I am based in stockport and its pick up only due to weight. Thanks

just been to a job , saw that the shower 9.5 kw is on 6mm t&e the cable goes in the wall and under floor boards ,No insulation, to the board (A cable run of no more than 10 m) . I said downgrade the shower to 8.5 max. Is it really necessary ? never quite sure , its borderline to me .
As the title says. Customer wants 2 extra sockets added in their kitchen and there is a redundant cooker point "available" on a 32A breaker.
Using 2.5mm T & E to add the extra sockets, I'd drop the breaker to a 20A MCB but a mate says no leave it as a 32A.
The extra cable run is 3 or 4...
hi got to connect a cooker to the cooker point and the installation manual states that you should use 6mm cable. do they do 6mm flex or shall i use 6mm twin and earth?
I've been given a nice Siemens electric double oven and hob. I currently have a single oven and gas hob.
I'll get the gas hob taken out by an approved pro.
Question is... can I hook up both the hob and the oven to the existing 32A circuit? I'm assuming with a 32A fuse in the CU it's a 6mm...
have any of you guys come across this before 6mm t&e tails this is the second time i've seen this in two weeks the one this morning was two x t&e tails (2 in the netral & 2 in the line), the customer with the 6mm t&e said that it has been like this for 20 years.
6MM MAIN EARTH on a tt system with 100 ohm ze at db ,it runs under patio to rod .do i have to upgrade it as it means patio has to come up ? old wylex 6 way rewireable fuse board protected by old crabtree 60amp elcb i have to add a spur for a stannah stair lift and upgrade the non existing...
