Seen something today while performing a fire alarm test at a relatively sized office that struck me as strange. Thought there was no better place to query it than here. Like I said decent sized office, 3 phase tn-c-s supply can't really say too much more about the installation because this...
Saw a consumer unit on a top floor flat today which currently has what looks like a 6mm t+e cable as the supply on a 60a fuse.
Meaning the earth is probably only 2.5mm. Now this has always been here and probably been done by the supplier i guess?
Your thoughts please.
Coming across a few of these. Very small run of cable as cu is in kitchen just below bathroom but should be 10mm cable. Did the old cable used to be slightly bigger than the new stuff?
Hi Guys. Got a kitchen jobs coming up and there is only a 6mm out to hob oven at the mo. New oven specified is 7.4kw and there is 2 single ovens at 3.4Kw each. Total Plate load is 14.2Kw. When I looked at job I thought I would run in another supply. But working it out with diversity all 3 will...
Hi I have two 6mm csa cables in the loft each going back to a separate 30A mcb in the CU. One is redundant, the other goes to a broken 8.5kW shower. I want to fit a new 9.5kW shower and would like to join both 6mm cables together at a 50A dpst shower switch, then run a short length of 10mm csa...
Hi all
Im currently on with a condition report and it's a tn-s earthing arrangement with a 6mm coming off the sheath into an earthing block then a 16mm from there to the cu, now would you put 6mm as main earthing conductor as this is worse case or 16mm as it goes into the board. Or shall I put...
Evening all. Today I was invited to look at a friend's latest project, a town center workshop-----garage. He is planning on turning it into a furniture shop. He has had a 'handyman' in doing some work for him, including electrics. Apparently there was no fusebox at all and no lighting...
Went to look at a house to buy few months back and no gas so needed all electric.
Re wire needed so looked into new electric heaters, ovens, showers, boilers etc.
Noticed supply cables to consumer unit about and cut out seem about 6mm and cut out was 60 Amp.
Was wanting to change to 100 amps...
Been asked to install an extractor in bathroom. Installing 30mA rcd spur outside covering all lighting and ext fan. Obviously notify building control and installation cert. what's people's opinions of listing as a departure from bs7671 on installation cert. obviously recommend upgrade to 16mm...
I have been asked to do a consumer unit change on a park home, 2x30amp 1x15amp 1x5amp, the supply form the meter is only 6mm, I am aware there are different regs in regards to theses installation. 6mm seems undersized, Is this acceptable?
Hi Guys.
So as the title says I recently had to crimp some 6mm T+E using yellow pre-insulated butt crimps. I have a pair of Engex ratchet crimping pliers, which work very well with red and blue crimps, but when I tried to crimp the 6mm the crimps could be easily pulled from the cable. I...
Hi guys just want to run this one past a few of you genius dudes out there. Is the following ok...?
32amp mcb > 6mm cable > socket in loft > x2 2.5 (1 leg to underfloor heating in bathroom 13amp & 1 to summer element 13 amp both fixed) the socket has a shower pump permanently plugged into it...
I'd appreciate peoples views on this, including compliance or otherwise with the regs.
I've come across a 1-bed flat where one ring main serves the small kitchen, and boiler & security alarm. The unusual thing is that the ends of the ring are then connected to a single 6mm T&E that runs back to...
Hello everybody, my name is Michael.
Last week a landlord called me regarding a faulty electric shower that the company tried to re fit under warranty but told him that the cable supplying it was under rated so they couldn't finish the job...
I went to take a look and the property being a...
