I took a glance at my CU the other day and noticed the main earthing conductor was terminated into a terminal block and then terminated to the supply earth. This seemed odd to me and also it didn't look very good. Why not terminate it straight to the supply earth? Should I contact my supplier?
I'm a little confused as to where the responsibility lies for the conductor described in the title. You know the type - on old TN supplies where you've got a bare multistrand conductor coming from the sheath to the M.E.T that's always of a fairly piddly CSA.
My understanding is that this is the...
Further to my recent post regarding main bonding.
When bonding the incoming water at the other side of the property, what is acceptable when running the cable down a wall due to be plastered?
Due to concrete floor and a terraced house, the only way is to run the cable up underneath...
I have recently come across a situation whereby instead of running a main equipotential bonding conductor from the MET to the incoming water someone had instead ran a short bond from the MET to some copper pipe in the mains cupboard and clamped it and then placed a bond on the pipe near the...
Edited: sorry of course Ze should be added to the post below, Table 41.3 is for comparing Zs.
Hi, it is my understanding that Table 41.3 of BS 7671 should be used for comparing the tabulated values with the resistances of:
1) the line conductor at 70 degC;
2) cpc at initial temperature, as...
Hi,
Scenario, Oil service to a church boiler is at the furthest point to the distribution board. Rather than run a separate bonding conductor to the oil service I've decided to bond the 3" cast iron heating pipework local to the DB then take a fly lead at the boiler from the CH pipework to...
Hi New to the Forum here.
I am a qualified Electrician however inexperienced due to spending 4 years in the army since finishing my apprenticeship. Trying my hardest to get back to the standard that I should be at. I have sat and passed the 17th edition but currently not got 2394/5. Plan to...
Evening..
I have a seperate oven and hob to fit.
The oven is 2.6kW, the hob is 3kW. I have fitted 4mm flex to the oven and the hob comes prewired with 2.5mm.
Zs on the cooker circuit is 0.2Ω making the PFC 1150A.
I was planning on connecting both to a dual cooker outlet plate fed by a 32A...
I have to provide power for 10 appliances. Each appliance will be provided with own mcb.
The distribution board is 50 meter far away. So I will install a sub board in the room where the appliances will go.the sub board will be fed from the distribution board. If I install the subboard with a...
Evening all.
Bit of an odd one this and I just wanted to run it past bigger brains than mine to make sure I'm not missing something obvious.
A brand new PME supply is being brought across to a field which has got 3 outbuildings, all of which need lights and a couple of sockets.
The supply...
A big Hi to all on here, please be gentle with me it my fist time !!
It's only a quick one but do the DNO have a legal requirement to supply suitable earthing at the point of origin of metered supply.
many thanks advance
Hi there, new to this site and just after a bit of advice. I am part qualified as a Domestic Electrical Installer and am just waiting for the course to complete my Part P.
I have been asked to install a new Consumer Unit on a TT system in a very old cottage. As seen in the photographs, the...
I have a query. 4 distribution boards, each fed by 25mm2 double insulated tails (approx 30m away) in a roof void. Only 1 16mm2 earthing conductor for all 4 submains. The earthing conductor is then connected at the first board and looped to the other three boards. Is this acceptable? I thought BS...
Hi just checking the main protective bonding conductor size on a tns system, there are two supplys the tails sizes are both (630x2 the supply earth is 240 and neutral is 630x1) persupply
designer aspecified main erthing conductorto met fothe main protective bonding as 2 x 240 i think this i...
I'm doing the distance learning course to then do my approved electricians exam. The question being asked is.
Determine by calculation the size of the main conductors between the main switch and the db. Including earth
so it's a 100A supply ambient temp 25.c in 100x100 trunking distance...
Why would two cables have the same current rating, but different conductor surface area?
I'm looking at double insulated thin wall 2-core 25A multistrand cable.
In one case the conductor area is 2mm^2, in the other it's 8.4mm^2.
Is this a mistake by a supplier? Or maybe one cable has better...
Carrying out an EICR and some minor works on a client's flat.
This is a grnd floor flat in a converted victorian house.
All the services go into the lobby of the basement flat.
Water, gas and electrical meters are all there. The bonding is a bit flaky but easily rectified.
Bonding, main...
Hi all, I was testing an installation today and every thing seems to be in order till I found a piece of white pvc conduit with a single 2.5 brown cable in it with no cpc. The conduit had been installed to pick up a permanent feed to a PIR from an emergency light fitting.
Both lights and the PIR...
