HI
My flat just failed the EICR because there is no RCD in the consumer unit.
There is no space for a new RCD as the consumer unit is full.
Do I have to have a new larger consumer unit installed?
Or can I have the existing on/off switch replaced by an RCD?
Thanks
Alan
Afternoon all,
I have an issue with the loft socket. When we moved the previous owners had a 2.5mm cable going up from the CU Via FCU however, the wiring was old and did not have earths(they cut them off).
So I decided to completely rip out the old wiring including unnecessary spur and put...
A few 30mA RCBO's that i have tested recently are tripping lower at x1 than they are at x5, e.g 13.1 x1 13.8 x5, I know both these results comply but im curious does any one know why the 1 times trip is lower than 5?
Long shot but thought I’d try, have a lighting circuit that trips the RCD as soon as the neutral touches the neutral bar for said RCD. Bypass that and it works fine just on an MCB so would think earth-neutral fault, but doing an IR test between N and E shows as a pass (>99M ohm). So unsure of...
Hi there ,
Currently doing a college project where i need to select protective devices for the contract. I'm now at the point of selecting SPDs and had a couple questions. I have chosen MCG RCBOs for my circuit breakers in this project for all my boards apart from the board supplying...
I have a fairly recently installed consumer unit with an RCD, between it and the garden there is another, much older (25yrs?) RCB (big Wylex thing)
from which a couple of power points are provided on the wall of my fish ponds. Before the consumer unit was fitted I could run the pond pump
from...
For context i am in my 2nd year in college and my head is going round in circles a question in my project for which i need to select the right protective devices for :
A 32A distribution circuit from the main board to supply summerhouse will have a four-way SP-N distribution board fitted...
Inspecting and testing a consumer unit as part of my training and have noticed that the circuit breaker for the SPD is on the RCD? I am unsure weather this is acceptable as I haven't come across this configuration and I am pretty new understanding SPDs could one of you more experienced people...
Im suppling distribution circuits and want to use the largest possible RCD available to avoid nuisiance tripping (its for outdoor street furniture and its a TT system). The Ze is 160.
The reg below says 1 second disconnection time but cant find anymore info in the regs about it. Closest I can...
Cascaded Distribution Units.
Given how cheap populated distribution boards are; i've started to use them for almost every major junction in my home:
Domestic Main Distribution Unit >10mm swa > Garage Distribution Unit > 6mm swa >Spa Distribution Unit...
Did a couple of inspections on 2 x 2 bed ground floor flood damaged flats today, only 4 circuits in each, bizarrely one socket circuit and 2 lighting circuits and one cooker circuit in each. Just a 4 way MCB consumer unit in each without RCD protection on any circuit, built and wired in the...
On a TT system the rcd must operate withing 0.2 seconds for many circuits. Why when we test rcd's does it not say 300ms for TN systems or 200 ms for TT systems?
I'm a property owner who is needing to get an old electrical installation NICEIC certified.
One of the buildings is a small office block with 6 small offices. The offices aren't currently being used commercially, this certification is just for insurance reasons.
The main fuse box is an old...
I have a 40amp RCD downstream of a 50a MCB (10mm csa cable) should the MCB be lowered to protect the RCD from overload?
If so why does this not apply to RCD devices in Split Load boards
I'm doing a college design project and need to choose a suitable range of circuit protective devices for the whole contact. I've chosen and already done all the protective devices for all my final circuits but was curious if the distribution circuits need RCD protection aswell.
The project...
Hi
Basically I have visited a youtube link of another electrician and he is talking about how many electricians find RCD fault very hard to resolve and he mentioned it takes less than 3 minutes using the method he mentioned but not completely hence its really puzzling me so if anyone could...
Can anyone tell me the latest regulation for RCD protection on socket outlets, I believe it's required for sockets up to 32A but I'm told it applies to all socket outlets, we have to install a 63A 5 pin socket located outside. Thanks in advance
