Regarding the "sockets allowed 3m horizontally from the boundary of zone 1" reg...something I've never had to consider before as most UK bathrooms wouldn't be big enough!
Looking at this plan from OSG
Does the 3m only apply in the direction of my red arrow, or does it arc around in the same...
Hello. I am thinking of fitting an outside weatherproof socket unit. I will run the cable back through the wall via a surface mounted box to a kitchen socket where it will be plugged in with a 13 amp fuse. I will use 2.5mm square cable and trunking. The kitchen socket is already covered by...
Hi there,
Hoping for some advice if possible..
Just moved into a property and have gone over the wiring that has been tested and inspected in the last 18months
The house is a fairly small 2 bed (around 53m2 over 2 floors)
What surprised me the most is that at the consumer unit there are...
Hi there.
So I put power into my garage but having a few issues.
I've connected the SWA from a 32amp breaker in the main CU (See yellow arrow in picture) out to the garage CU which has a 16amp breaker for 5 sockets and 6amp for 2 LED Strip lights.
I've earthed this at the garage CU.
Plug sockets...
Hi all,
After some advice here to settle my mind, is there any regulations to limit the number of sockets on a 20A 2.5mm radial? Reading regulation 433.1 i know it states 50m² floor area, but i can't seem to find anything about the number of sockets? Or is it just the total load that...

hi all. A friend asked if i would look at his kitchen sockets as they would trip just the mcb now and then. i said ill look but thats it as he had a electrician install 3 spurs and add 1 socket on a radial circuit 16amp mcb and looks like 6mm t&e from mb for the circuit and looks like the combi...
Bit of advice please. Not too used to this stuff.
In large old building, a couple of MICC radial circuits feeding a few sockets each. All tests pass, all RCD protected, very good Zs etc.
Questions:
chassis of metal consumer unit being used for CPC, no banjos/fly leads etc. It clearly works...
Going to be doing a dogs pamper salon. A wooden shed building appx 2m x 2m. They want sockets on a couple of walls, plus a shower to wash dogs. Big problem with 3m rule. Suggested under sink 7 litre water heater attached to shower hose. Does this still become a shower? Would I be able to use IP...
Hi all ,
I understand that you can’t spur of off a spur , ideally adding sockets would best be done by splitting the ring and completing it. Currently have an outside socket on the back of the house which won’t be used at all but we have a decking area further up the garden which I want to add 2...
So I'm back to work after the bank holiday and I've been asked to install a couple of sockets so they can plug this big beast of a ups system into it.
Currently they have about 5 extension leads all linked to gather supplying it ?
I've never worked on a three phase board before but I will...
I guess you could file this under hints and tips.
When you're installing a socket the worst part, for me at least, is pushing it into place
and keeping it there while you tighten the screws. That means bending the cables,
however many there are. It can be quite a feat of strength and and a bit...
I have run a cable plugged into my bedroom socket outlet into my garden and put an outdoor weather proof outlet in the garden, my landlord has told me I need a electricians certificate but I thought it was just like an extension lead. Any help would be fantastic.
I have come across a double socket where the earth terminations aren't linked together - Is this illegal (and what regulation do i look at?) or is it allowed, and I just put the loop-earth in one termination and join the unearthed socket with a length of Earth conductor?
My mate has built a summer house on to the side of his house. He wants to
install two double sockets and a light.
can we spur off the ring main( which is rcd. protected), with a 30 amp junction Box to a
un switched fuse spur then two double sockets.
am I right that if he wants to use a...
Hi
On Friday I found 2 x 13A double sockets about 30 cm apart in an office. One of them was on same circuit as all other sockets in same room. The 2nd one had been added, and drilled through from the adjacent office. The circuits are on different phases. Common sense dictates that a 400v...
After updating a consumer unit, from an old rewireable fuse board, one of the socket circuits is tripping when under load. The property should have been rewired as the installation is so dated but the project manager and client didn't want to rewire it. The supply to the flat is approximately...
I have two outdoor sockets(in poor condition) wired to two ground bedded armoured cables. The sockets are linked to one another via three wires(coloured live, neutral and earth). The sockets therefore have two wires in each terminal.I want to replace with double rcd socket. Can I join the bedded...
