I’ve had a disagreement with one of the Engineers in work. So we are doing an install. Installing an Intruder Alarm. Rather than go with my suggestion of coming off a Socket and adding in the Fuse Spur as he’s been doing it 15 years it’s now going next to the Consumer Unit. Which at a guess is...
Currently I have a Henley block which has 2 consumer units. 1 of these CU feeds a garden supply and garage. Out in the garden which is fed by a 16mm 3 core swa and is fused at 63amps with rcbo feeding sockets lights etc.
I have now built a cabin further down the garden and want to provide...
Hola!
I’m in the process of renovating an apartment in Madrid. The consumer unit is fitted with an old 15amp ICP switch. I believe its function is now handled by the smart meter, so it is redundant. As this is limiting the power available to the property I would like to remove it.
My...
I have a fairly recently installed consumer unit with an RCD, between it and the garden there is another, much older (25yrs?) RCB (big Wylex thing)
from which a couple of power points are provided on the wall of my fish ponds. Before the consumer unit was fitted I could run the pond pump
from...
Hi I am converting a Sprinter van. I would like to use RCBOs. I want to run 3 seperat Circuits. 1 and 2 for sockets either side of the van and third to a Truma combi boiler. I will be connecting up a Victron Multiplus 2.
So please correct me if I have this wrong.
The 230v socket will be close...
Hello all,
I'm in the process of having my kitchen refurbished and I'm looking for advice on my current setup as I have been told that I will require a new consumer unit in order to connect the new induction hob and oven.
The oven requires 16a and the hob is 7.2kw
It looks like he intends put...
Hi can you power a second consumer unit in the garage from our main consumer unit. We have a big armed cable from the main consumer unit into the garage and can we connect this to a second consumer unit? The armed cable current runs our solor and comes from the fuse in the picture attached.
Hi all,
First time post to the forums, I hope you all go easy on me!
We are undertaking an electrical install as apart of a solar PV installation. We have a very small electric meter cupboard on the front external wall of the clients house and they're not keen on an external enclosure on show...
Hello,
Which amendment of the 18th BS7671 required RCDs for protecting lighting circuits (domestic)? I was told it’s amendment 2. Is that correct? Or is it amendment 1?
Thanks
Is there a reg anywhere that states that you have to use the same make SPD inside a consumer unit. I know there are with MCB's as they obviously have to sit on the same bus bar but an SPD just slots in and has flexible cables wiring it up.
Hello, I’m currently at college doing a design project which is based in a hotel/swimming pool area. I have been given an example but it doesn’t make to much. I have a question on how to wire the lighting and how to have it switched.
If someone can help that would be great. I can show you...
Customer has a Wylex NS11 board with NSC cartridge fuses.
They want some work doing, so now need RCD protection.
The NHXB RCBO have always been a good fit for NSB MCB, doe's anyone know
if they work for the NSC.
The pic. is my friends consumer unit and what I can’t understand is:
the left RCD is in tripped/off position yet he tells me the circuits 6,7,and 8 in the house are alive?
I thought the mcb’s 6,7,8 were connected from the left RCD and hence although mcb’s are closed the circuits should be dead...
Hi all, I have been on a site repairing damage caused by travellers collecting copper for the last week. We have found and replaced cabling to get the site up and running. Power has been on for a few days but today the 11KV ring main unit tripped. This feeds a transformer attached to the main...
I had a consumer unit replacement today. It was a bit of a nightmare as most of the cables were too short for the new unit.
I extended the ones that required extending with crimps and a bit of heat shrink, but it took forever.
Are there any other options that are easier? I don't really like...
hi everyone, I'm in the process of converting an outbuilding into a granny annex which will have an electric shower installed I've been told I'll need a shower priority unit positioned in the main house next to the cu which will then feed the annex shower directly without need to involve the...
Hello all
I hope you are well.
I had a new Alarm Panel installed in January and all was working well until I got a new Consumer Unit installed Last Week which has RCBOs.
The previous Unit was just a Fuse Box.
The Alarm Panel is on its own Circuit connected via a Fused Spur.
The RCBO for the...
Hi, new member here! Thanks for any advice in advance. This week I got a new consumer unit installed. The electrician has just sent me through an EICR certificate. From what I had read I was under the impression that I needed an EIC form rather than an EICR. Is this the case? Is an EICR form...
Hi! I know the basics on a modern consumer unit, but I'm not sure on this old panel here.
Could you help me know what I'm looking at?
Seeing two big fuses there.
