Hello,Was told this today and am wondering if it is correct. If you have 240v ac and do not use the neutral then you get 12v ac?Thanks

It's not really a 'stupid' question if you don't know the answer and the person who's supposed to be teaching you tells you it's true - what reason would you have to doubt them?

I'd love to see the look on a tradesman's face if they sent their apprentice off for a glass hammer, some sky hooks and a bubble for their level and they returned with these:

Lifeaxe Emergency Break-Glass Hammer
Products | Skyhook-GB - Leading Safety Upwards
Plastic Cylindrical Vials | Level Developments

But thats not a bubble for the level... Its a bubble vial!
And you know it was someones disgruntled apprentice that made those skyhooks.

As for the glass hammer well funny you mention that, One of my colleagues sent his apprentice off out for a glass hammer and he came back with such a item!
Needless to say he felt a little silly after and we had a good laugh about it but the lad showed good use of initiative so couldn't knock him!

Wind up. Albeit a possibly dangerous one.

Sometimes we just can't help winding apprentices up. I recently convinced one that if you eat a mars bar straight after a greasy fry up it neutralises all the grease and makes it healthier.
Didn't think about it again till I heard him telling another apprentice about it a week later. So convinced he was, it almost brought a tear to my eye.

My favourite wind up for a while has been telling apprentices that the cord between the cores on an SWA has to be sleeved and connected to the earth bar to cancel out the magnetic field inside the cable.
