I've ordered 10 fuses so plenty to play with. I'll disconnect the battery and pop a few back in see what happens. Is there any way to test the pirs or is it a case of trial and error

Now bell box....again after 5 plus years, the 6v nicad gives up, and you will find it split open.not worth replacing as it takes other components. New bell box time.

Batteries must always be checked, and replaced every 5 years.

The bell box on the second alarm was changed not to long ago along with a new keypad

The batteries are the key to blown fuses in any alarm....but you need to take voltage checks to prove whats going on

I'll know more on Saturday when i go round as I'm away at the minute presume you mean voltage checks at the pcb as both battery's would be dead

Yes, if we have more info...such aux voltage, neg bell trigger and transformer secondary.

As taz says changing the battery is a good start if that don't solve it then just check the pirs one at a time disconnect them and do continuity test between red and black to check for any shorts hope its just the battery then it will be a quick fix for you

Right guys abit of an update. Transformer out giving 16v between + and -. 15v between + and earth. But at the + and - at the pcb there's 1v

Just checking but it will be ac out of the tranformer and dc on the pcb did you have your multi meter set on the correct setting

That's a very good point didn't think about that. I normally do commercial stuff so abit out my comfort zone here so excuse if I miss things. I was using my little multimeter and had it on the dc (just checked the meter) but not sure if I trust it much so fetched my multifunction megger (mft1552). This only gives a second for volts so I presume this can read both?

Dont think a mft would give you a dc reading i would use a multi meter, to check if your multi meter is working properly just test it on a new battery , any battery will do, a standerd b c or d baterry is 1.5 volts dc , if your meter it working ok ,then had you removed all the load from the panel and have you replaced the fuse without it blowing, if so it sound like the panel will need replacing

Just had a look on the mft1552 manual it says it automatically reads between Ac and dc but will try on the battery. Fuse replaced and hasn't blown but I did leave the battery disconnected through all this would that affect anything?

If you have removed the battery and now the fuse isnt blowing i would say you had a duff battery so maybe worth getting a new battery , it might be that you were not testing correctly

The fuse isn't blowing but still no pirs, keypad etc not working no lights etc all dead
