I also struggled at the end.
I mean a question on SWA and it's erection methods, A ring test, An IR test.
All these answers take quite a long time to write.
And when you're under pressure as well it's easy to miss something.
I'm just forgetting about it now until the result comes.
Anyway, we have the practical to think about.

Yeah that's the only thing we can do, an if it's a fail it's not the end of the world, there were guys on my course that had failed 2 or 3 times, oh well wait and see, fingers crossed :)

I know, it's a long time, specially when you're relying on a good result that will change your life work/money wise. Even if i did pass i still wouldn't be too confident doing testing and inspecting, being fairly new to the trade. I'd like to work alongside someone for a while

Is there a market out there yet for periodics, if it is who drives it, insurance companies, mortgage companies etc?
Im interested in my slice of this pie, haha!

You will find very few domestic PIR's requested by an home owner. Often you may get one for mortgage application if the non electrical surveyor picked up a point, such as CU not to 17th edition, but often the seller can take out a small insurance that will cover any costs of electrical problems and so the PIR is skipped.

It's the commercial end of things that the majority of PIRs are done. They are insurance driven.

i sat the 2391 mid-week also. Paper was fair, seen harder seen easier. Section A went okay but Section B was a bit trickier. Last 3 questions (Ring Final test, IR test and EFLI path for TNS) went well, think i cocked up the earting/main bonding question though.

40-odd working days / 8-10 weeks for results.... tick tock tick tock....

Best of luck fellas

RE: 2391 Exam 21/07/11

Doe's anyone remember how many marks were in the Earth & Main bonding conductor question, as mentioned by Zak above, in section B. I know it was less than 15 but could have been 8 marks? Also remember a few other questions about effects of volt drop on a conductor and an exposed earth clamp which threw me a bit too!

Bitern - I thought each of the 6 questions carried an equal 15 marks in total in Section B. Last 3 questions were a straight 15 marks but the first 3 were split into 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 mark sub-questions.

Can't remember what the question was exactly but the exposed earth clamp got me too!

Think i put something like humidity would cause oxidization of the earth clamp leading to an increase in resistance. then waffled on about why it might be necessary to carry out an Impedance loop test to ensure the Zs value is within range for the protective device to operate in the required time. I drew a blank at the 70mm Eathing conductor question so just reeled out points about the decrease in resistance in relation to the size of CSA. Feel a bit unsure now.

@ Jamminuk.

Wouldn't worry too much about the TN-s diagram, they should mark you for all the bits you labled correctly. Don't remember the PFC question, other than one which asked for the two types of fault current tests to be conducted. My memory? And it was only last week!

Good point about the oxidization / increase in R bitern - i think i put down something weak like "metal swarf might hit the clamp" ..............D'OH!
oh well we will find out soon enough..

That bonding question was the only one I was not sure about.
Well parts of it I was not sure about.
I would love to see that question again I think it was question number 23.
They asked why is it acceptable to have a 25mm bonding conductor if I remember correctly.
I could not think so I said because the regulations allowed it. :cheesy:

As regards the earth clamp because they were manufacturing metal spoke wheels I said it must be suitable for a corrosive environment.

I have never come across a question like that in all the past papers and books I have read, the way it was worded seemed really vague to me and I wasn't really sure what they were asking.

Yeah I can just imagine the Chief Examiner's Report on that question - " A lot of candidates did not answer this question correctly.......................... "

@ La Poste,

Sounds like you're in the right area with regards to way you answered question 23. I think the examiners award marks accordingly, as long as you supply the correct phrase or terminology. They have a sheet in front of them which includes a list of ways each question can be answered. Never the less, some of the questions do seem a bit unclear what they're asking for at times. Good Luck.
