£50 for a British General 10w 100a ms 80a & 63a rcds & mcbs !
and im trying to charge £350 supplied & fitted ! whats this saying to customers ? Im rich and my matress is stuffed with gold !

there is that but they sound like sensible people who get a spark to change the fittings, not some one who thinks they can save a buck or two

correct me if im wrong but you dont have to cert when changing fittings, tax mans not gonna check every invoice, especially if it gets lost, so theres yr cash.

james i agree there are some real plonkers out there, they think electricity comes from sockets like magic not through cables, best when some one drills through a cables and says well i didnt know there was a cable there, i usually leave them a nice reminder in the shape of a surface pattress where i have jointed the cables, just so they dont do it again, lol

I agree i got called out to a job the bloke complained he had fitted some new sockets and they wernt working so when i had a look at them it was no wonder hed just screwed them to the skirting.

I went to do a pir on a house and the readings were all over the place. he had fitted some new plugs in the kitchen and from left to right if the socket he took off was say l/n/e then he would then just repeat it with the new sockets. trouble came when they were all different manufacturers. so he ended up with, l in e, e in n, n in l`s all over the shop. he said it was not his fault and the sockets were just silly??

i had a customer who changed a ceiling rose put 1 cable in each connection of connector then wondered why her lights weren't working, once sorted she asked me if i was going to put it as a repair on my job sheet, when i said no it was a fault diagnoses, she was going to ring her insurance and ask for her £50 excess back, put it this way i had to bite my tongue very hard, silly cow!

£200 does seem to be where CU changes are headed.

We recently lost two full rewires on 2 bed terrace houses (different clients) someone else got the job for £950 per house!!
I can't get that to balance even using cheap as chips (won't last two years!) accessories and with out VAT

Trouble is that B & Q as such are not doing anything illigal by selling electrical equipment to the public, there is no qualifications needed to do any kind of electrical work in a house, all you need to be is competant, and unless the government make it law that someone buying electrical equipment must complete some kind of test before they are sold it then they will continue to sell.

Theres no money in domestics especially if you have people willing to do the work for next to nothing £200 is a bit of a risk even if you can get a cheap board you have got your mains tails maybe some trunking and more than often you have to run new bonding .What happens if you get a fault after you have fitted sorry theres no room at all with that figure might as well stay at home and watch chav tv

my argument is gas you can smell it, water you can see and hear it, electricity until it bites you don't have a clue. leave it all to the trained competent people!!!!!

The only problem with selling only to the trade is that I know some electricians that are happy to charge Labour only and let the customers go out and buy all the gear from DIY stores.
Roukel iv had a costumer that insisted he bought the parts even though i could supply for cheaper? They/Him just seem to think that we get parts for pennys and make a huge mark up on them.He was armed with tool station/Screwfix etc books.
I ll fit your cheap parts mate anything goes wrong with them you pay me to fix it. If i supply and fit you some some kind of come back.
Im afraid its the mentality of to drive across the other side of town to buy something £3 cheaper but using £10 OF PETROL TO GET IT.
There are a plentful supply of these idiots about.
Trying to do it cheap as poss always costs more in the long run.

leave it all to the trained competent people!!!!!

That should be the attitude that everyone takes but at the end of the day it's only a few wires so how hard can it be?

I on the other hand NEVER touched an anything electrical until I did my first days work with a Sparky.
