£50 for a British General 10w 100a ms 80a & 63a rcds & mcbs !
and im trying to charge £350 supplied & fitted ! whats this saying to customers ? Im rich and my matress is stuffed with gold !

£350 is a bit steep is that with all the certs ? i charge £200 when i get them but people just don't want it doing seems they would rather risk having a fire, than be safe.

£200 for a board change? Surely that's underselling a service you have trained long and hard to do? Electrical work carried out by a qualified and registered spark is a premium service and you should price accordingly (I don't mean to sound patronising, I'm just surprised at that price).

As for B&Q, it drives me nuts. It's all the "how to" diagrams and leaflets they have floating around the store too. It wont be long before they'll be selling a DVD to go with them with a step by step guide of how to rewire your house! The sooner the powers that be start treating electricity the same as gas the better off we'll all be.

Are these the boards that have the dual RCD but no space on the main switch to install RCBO's? I've noticed ASDA have gone down the route of selling electrical fittings now too.

£200.00 for a board change ! a decent board will cost you at least £75.00 with tails and earthing bits and bobs allow at least £100 for parts.Full set of tests for £100 you selling yourself short unless you just need the work.
Last board change I did was £450 with 8 RCBO's plus upgrade to earth.
Sunny old Surrey !

they don`t see all the other bits that go with it mate. its like a switch change when they can buy one for a quid. the sooner they take of boards from the shop floor the better. also there is actually no need for them to be on the shop floor now they have the trade counters inside anyway. trouble is with the trade counter at ours is that joe public can pick up a catalogue so they think they should be charged trade price for the bits now as well

my personal opinion is that no diy store should be allowed to sell electrical accessories(sockets, switches, light fittings, c.u's) to the joe public, it should be trade only with proof that you are qualified to do the job.
i do work for a large insurance company and the amount of jobs that i see where people think that they can change these things and make a complete hash of it is unreal.
why not leave it to the people that can do the job and save a whole lot of bother and the risk of killing themselves.

The only problem with selling only to the trade is that I know some electricians that are happy to charge Labour only and let the customers go out and buy all the gear from DIY stores.

Yes indeed but that would also help regulate the trade even further by restricting the amount of CASH work and NIL certificate work being done ;)
