B

bugsy

Quoted a CU change ( to include full test before change ) quoted ÂŁ 500.00 got told by client it should be ÂŁ 150.00 when I asked how he came to this figure he produced and ad by B & Q , 10 way dual RCD board ÂŁ50.00
I told him to go and get it and ask for one of ' how to do' fact sheets

Love the way the B&Q add’s don’t give any details of what’s included.

But I’m sure Joe from down the local will make use of them all. Maybe not the correct rating, but it’s in the kit so it’ll do.
God alone knows what a mess he’d make of the RCBO in the Wylex kit.

Tel as I mentioned before,I fitted one of these

It seems to me the installer is stuck with whatever mcbs are in the board, I wanted a 20 amp which wasn't included and the customer reckoned there were no loose ones available,my own suppliers dont hold them either

Do B+Q cater for various ranges?
fair comment, des. if you ring nexus industries in telford, they will tell you if they have suppliers close to you.

Screwfix stock a full range of mcb's and rcbo's for those boards. Cheap too.

So the client (who is obviously an expert in all things) believes that it should only cost £100 to fit a new board…well, could you give me his email address as I could do with some help pricing up a few jobs lol.
Personally, I couldn’t care less if the client can get a wylex B&Q special for £50. In fact they can get it free of charge for all I care, it’s the installation that’s the hard bit.
My quoted price (and I think £500 is a fair price), is not just for materials and “wots left in the pot is for the installation” – well sunshine the installation is the pricey bit.

I charge for my experience, for my qualifications, my knowledge, my insurance, my scam fees, etc etc…. i.e. I charge a price as a qualified electrician, not as a milkman or laborer doing sparky work on the side.
Respect yourself, your knowledge and charge for it for f sakes.

This driving down of price is starting to really p**s me off. Let the moron client fit the board himself and let natural selection take over.
I’m all for giving the client value for money, but come on, for a once respected trade this is getting pathetic - £100!!!!! I’d rather jack it in and sign on……I know, perhaps I could become an electrician that delivers milk on the cheap (sponsored by B&Q) and by this time next year I'll be a millionaire.

if i quoted 500 round here, i wouldn't get any work. job would have to need bonding doing and a bit of remedials to get near that figure. a straightforward CU change inc. paperwork ( say 8/10 circuits) i would go in at around ÂŁ350

If I quoted 350 round here,B+Q would be selling very few BG cons units, because for even that low price, they would still want a free weekend in Butlins voucher to tempt them and getting a consumer unit change would be unlikely

These prices that are often bandied about on this forum sometimes amazes me

There are parts of the country where figures of the sort mentioned are "astronomical" in comparison to what is available in the poorest parts of the UK

I recently wired a house for ÂŁ1800 and made near a thousand for the weeks work, unbelievable wages for most around here

I was asked to do the job without any competition by the customer after an English firm, recomended by an insurance company, wanted 7500 for a simple install
Where I live,we have community and these sorts of prices are alien and unobtainable, they also are very, very very unaffordable to the vast majority of the community

There may be a eye opening opportunity for some to actually visit or live in a depressed area, then experience the reality of a society where wealth is having a few bob left over after essential living costs, like enough food or this weeks rent, then ask for 500 for that consumer unit, eyes would be popping out left right and centre
