As a favour to my local village school i have been doing the pat testing.
The council phoned the head and said she needs to do a risk assessment for the frequency of testing fare enough.

I said i would help her do this but the council have come back saying that i cant and i cant do the testing as all through i am a fully qualified and indentured electrician with 20 years i am not qualified pat tester but would be happy for me to quote for doing a fixed wiring inspection .

The 2377/001 course was useful. The 2377/002 was obvious. But why ask a qualified electrician if he has these? The LABC has no idea. It's like part P, our trade is run by pen pushers. The sooner i'm out of it the better. It's just getting too bureaucratic and expensive to trade and make a reasonable profit.

After getting lumbered once with having to PAT test every bit of kit in our workshop at a factory I once worked at, I'd be more than happy to never be qualified to PAT test ever again.
Must be the most tedious and soul destroying job there is.

Totally Agree!!!

I had to PAT test a garage a month or so ago because the Labourer / PAT Tester was off sick...... THANKS!!!

Didn't someone mention on here you can buy a DVD course for £60... Would that not be an option for the OP

Did they have the any idea of inspection and testing if not I would question where they served there time as that is all PAT testing is
It is, yes, but you need to be able to realise the similarities and transpose them to testing an appliance instead of an installation. Plus there are a few other subtleties such as soft testing, appliance types, frequency of testing etc.

Now that you mention it the one guy took the view that the regs are nice but at the end of the day we come to work to make money and you can't go around failing things if they're expensive; his idea of inspection and testing seemed to be that you need to take a common sense attitude - you don't do the installation with your eyes closed and if something was wrong you'd change it there and then. Testing consists of a bang test. I reckon I can say what I like about him because he won't be reading this - the last thing he'd want to think about is work, even when he's there.

Why would my self respect be reduced because of some meaningless drivel. that has been invented as a city and guilds certificate for non electricians to perform this task

It may be worthwhile for non sparks, but is almost irrelevant to a spark and is considered as a add on skill, only to people ignorant of a sparks trade

I've got to agree with that. There are too many things that have a course, exam and certificate attached to them for no good reason other than for generating income for training organisations and examining boards

Who knows, a bit off topic (completely) but I wonder if Andrex will run a course on how to effectively wipe?

Actually there is probably a C&G for it in the wings!!

As i said above. The 2377/002 is nothing. It's the 2377/001 that is more interesting and useful.
Most people only do the 002 which is just for maintenance guys.
But in the end it's all bull like part P.
