Heating Engineer set me a challenge

The heating engineer in question wasn't actually there, it was a puzzle he obviously wanted to set for the next poor mug who turned up.
I was actually there due to the cable which fed this socket having been nibbled by a rodent. Just a good job that the fuse didn't blow in the middle of winter, especially as the homeowners were a couple in their 80's.

I love the fact not only has it been done once but twice with the 15mm as well.

I'd love to be able to be that good.

I agree that this is a Disgrace - whoever did that is not worthy of the title `Tradesman` !

I assume that this is at low level because of the Electrical sockets.

But removing the Plugs looks achievable to Me:

Turn Off Electrical Power to those Sockets.

`Wiggle` the Plug tops out enough to get a Dumpy screwdriver onto the Socket outlet screws - from the Photo it looks like this might be possible at either side of the Plugs [?].

Tilt the Socket outlet forwards at the top and lift up as much as the wires will allow - hopefully just enough to remove the Plugs.

Hopefully Socket wiring is still O.K. - re-screw Socket outlet to back box - Turn Off socket switches.

Turn Electrical Power back On.

Rewire Heating Electrics / Controls.


This is how `Easy` this is for Us Heating Engineers [LOL]


Obviously I realise that this may NOT work in practice.


But I am sure that the OP does NOT need MY Advice !

If it was me I'd unplug ever so slightly then get my new fein tool on the go and cut the pins off!!

Chris, Whilst I normally respect your usual posts, I'm afraid on this occasion...!

just get your adjustable out and undo the compression fitting, move the pipe out of the way and do whatever it is you want to do with the socket/plug.

It was supposed to be a bit of a `Wind Up` - although IF I ever had to try to unplug something like is in the Photo what I described is what I would try - if there was not the option to engage an Electrician at that point.

Obviously an Electrician would be required to rewire the Heating / Boiler to another power source.

Of course I would have the option to Drain down the Heating System - disconnect the Pipes from the Boiler and then unplug the Plugs.

I would NEVER have the audacity to try to be `Clever` on here - by even thinking that I knew how to do something `Electrical` better than all of You Professional Electricians / Electrical Engineers.

However I would be VERY interested in why what I described would NOT be the way to try - ?

And even more interested in the `Correct way` to achieve removing these Plugs - ?

Thanks for letting Me know that You were also on the `Wind Up` - the last thing that I want is to irritate Members or to make myself look a Fool on here.

I was just describing what I would TRY to see what comments I received - especially after Midnight on a Friday Night / Saturday Morning !

Obviously Shagbites suggestion is available to Me as a Heating Engineer - But I think that I would still try what I described first.

When Draining down a Heating System and then Re-filling it I would have to add Corrosion Inhibitor - what I use is about £30.00 - and I would have to re-visit after a few Days to vent the Radiators etc. - so I would want to try the `method` that I described above first.
