this thread will go on for quite a while (14 WEEKS), to exams... ive nearly read gn3 for the first time and there is a few things i dont fully understand but im sure i will for when the time comes from help from you guys/dudes/punks who know just a little to much.

when i did the 2391 ipu....i got a question on earth paths......what i did was to refer to the ground between rod and star as "general mass of earth"......and the other stuff as for tn systems of course.....

as has been said here already ipu....theres a guy down at C&G HQ that has a likeing for earth paths.....they ALWAYS crop up on this one mate......another guy has a fetish for terminology....so remember what all the people in here have told you.....its a sure fire way of either gaining....or loseing marks here........now then,....its up to you how you deal with this exam.....i personally went straight to the 6 structured questions here first...as they are worth 15 points each.....spend about 1 1/2 hours on these 6.....then move on to the 20 short answer questions.....and dont forget....if you cant think what the answer to a question is straight away....move on...dont hang about...2 1/2 hours may seem like plenty of time....it aint.....what you may find is something jogs your memory later to a question that you passed on earlier.....and dont forget...that you can pick up marks for an attempt.....so even if you dont/cant answer the WHOLE question.....a part answer/attempt will get you marks.....reduced of course... but still some marks.....and once you get over the magic 90 mark threshold.....youv got it mate.....

whats the chances of them asking about tesing selv,pelv or electrical separation....
well this is why you need to totally imerse yourself in GN3 mate....as it could be ANYTHING...including these that they ask you about.......so dont forget that if doing an "insulation resistance test"....then tell em what meter your using...an "insulation resistance meter"....not a megger or an IR tester....has to be worded....dont forget terminology here....and if/when testing selv on the secondary side....you`d set your insulation resistance meter to 250V DC....dont forget to put DC mate.....and its "resistance" when testing for continuity using a "low resistance ohmmeter"...not a continuity tester...or a fluke...or something like that.....and when in AC...such as when doing a Zs we refer to resistance as "impedence"...as its AC mate.....dont forget....

what about this one;
a consummer has acquired four antique cast iron lamp posts and has converted them to accomadate edison screw tungsten filament lamps and installed them at various points in the garden. a pir controlled tungsten halogen secuity light has also been installed on the side of the house. the post the post and security light have been supplied from a standard metal clad, one gang, one way grid switch externoally mounted.
The feeds to all the lights are 1mm pvc/pvc twin with cpc cable, clipped direct to the external brickwork and also laid in 25mm of sand under patio slabs to each post in the form of a radial circuit.. the metal switch is fed from a socket outlet circuit on the downstairs ring final circuit using 1.5mm pvc/pvc twin and earth cable which passes through the wall and is clipped with 1mm cable on their edges upto the switch. each edison screw lamp fitting together with a terminal block is mounted on a plastic base and secured in the head of each post, an inspection and test of this installation is to be carried out;

state for this installation
a, the types of verification that would need to be undertaken?
b,the status of the peron carrying out the verification?
c, the documentation that would need completing?
d, the legislation that would apply?
e, three items from bs7671 or gn3 check list that would need to be considered

List six departures from bs7671 that should be revealed during the inspection preocess,
State where departures should be recorded

list the
a, relevent instruments tests in the correct sequence to be carried out on this new installation
b, instruments to be used for each of the above tests

state for this installation
a, the types of verification that would need to be undertaken? periodic verification and initial verification
b,the status of the peron carrying out the verification? competant person
c, the documentation that would need completing? minor works certificate, electrical condition report with schedlue of inspections and schedule of test results
d, the legislation that would apply? electricity at work regulations
e, three items from bs7671 or gn3 check list that would need to be considered? routing of cables, cable selection, verification of polarity

List six departures from bs7671 that should be revealed during the inspection preocess, lamps not to bs standard as he converted, metal clad switch ( ip codes), cables cliped on there edges,, the 1.5mm cable aint fused
State where departures should be recorded on ? minor electrical installation works certificate

list the
a, relevent instruments tests in the correct sequence to be carried out on this new installation; DEAD TESTS continuity of protective conductors, continuity of ring final circuit conductors, insulation resistance, polarity, Live tests earth fault loop impedance, functional testing including rcd testing and voltage drop
b, instruments to be used for each of the above tests?
low resistance ohmmeter
insulation resistance ohmmeter id say high range ohmmeter
earth fault loop impedance tester
rcd tester
