Hi all.

When upgrading a fuse box to a 17th ed. CU is it a legal requirement to get an isolation switch fitted, or can it be done live. Far from ideal I know, but the £90 price tag set by manweb puts a lot of customers off.

it obviously isnt a reg , a 10 way dual rcd is a 17th edition board so thats what goes in .

So if there was a 4 way CU before I'd put in a 100A main switch board with RCBO's...... just saying

so what should i put in

work out how many circuits, then I usually allow a couple of spare ways.

obviously if it's a bigger DB the allow more, think a lot of people,use 10% as a general rule

But a CU with RCBOs matches the regs more than sticking 25mm tails in everything does! Daz

I was thinking that Murdoch, I know it is considered good practice to leave 20% spare capacity, sometimes this is in the spec, not an actual reg though.

Jay, I am surprised you are not losing work left, right and centre if you are charging for new tails on every job, plus 30 quid for the isolator (you said in an earlier post), and having to wait for the DNO each time, Christ I sometimes have a hard time trying to justify main bonding to the customer, which does need doing from time to time.


Edit: the ten way fully loaded is sometimes the cheaper deal depending on the wholesaler, so I will give you that.
