as title. using existing back boxes ( lighting) as original VIR cable in capping and managed to re-use route to save chasing. boxes are tight and nailed in. removal would cause a lot of damage to decor. no earth terminal in box, so my solution was to drill the side of the box and fit screw. obviously a 2mm HSS bit is no good to drill into the brick, that's why it's in the side. would have been neater if I'd gotmy box of ring crimps on site, but hey ho. at least the box is earthed.

Drill the side, Rivnut it M4, then screw in the pillar terminal. Smart, permanent, no tapping needed.

I do like those, Lucien, use them a bit, but frankly don't always carry them in my toolbag...however, if I knew I was returning to the job, I would do what Tel did, and then beef it up on the next trip.
They are good, though!

my old man served in North Africa WW2. being bombed by the krauts, he wished for a pair of 20mm Oerlikons. as it was he had to make do with shooting at them with a Lee Enfield .303. you use what you have to hand.

These are handy screws.......i always grab a hand full every time the ceiling fixers are on site!

i would have used same if i'd got them with me. still a lot of work to do there so will alter with ring crimps. but customer needs lights today.

20mm? Don’t you mean 3/4”? Was imperial back then.

Lost count of the number of drills and M4 taps I bust when rewiring old farmhouses. They all wanted to keep the old switches, so had to earth all the old boxes.

oerlikons were foreign, so 20mm.
