Just scrolled back to page 4 with the dogs dinner pictures of the install ...

He put meter tail upgrade on the CU ... now correct me if I'm wrong but they look like 16mm tails to me ?

Also, OP - is there a sticker on the CU stating when it was tested and a recommended next test date? Because on the certificate he hasn't put a figure in, it must be that bloody good it never needs re-testing

...Joking a side, that EIC can probably be ripped up and put in the bin. Shambles.

I'm not able to see the install right now, but I can't see see one on the pictures I took. It would have to be hidden down the side of CU if there at all.

...It's also worth noting I've just spent a good 10minutes looking through them cert's ... how the fk have you found their website? Or am i just been completely blind ? I thought electricians weren't magicians lol

To clear this up; I PM'ed website to Murdoch a while ago so he could check it out for me!
I will not publicly name installer until I know beyond doubt that he has done something illegal.
Whilst I don't like the price charged to my mother, I now know that is his standard charge rather than an opportunist one.
I'm still a little unclear about where they stand with this 'certificate' as the comments vary wildly!

Hard to say where you stand
You were given a quote for some work, the work was completed and you paid.

The problem is, it looks like the work was not carried out to an acceptable standard,
I would hazard a guess that it was carried out by an unqualified or under qualified person,
You've been given a certificate that's not worth the paper it's not written on, and you have yet to receive notification of part P compliance.

Part P is very important, you must chase this up. If you have no success with this you will have to pay another electrician to do a third party notification.

Ultimately you need peace of mind for your mothers safety, you might be better off just getting in another competent electrician to test it and notify the work.
You could then try to get the cost back from the original electrician.

You could try trading standards.

These are just my thoughts on the matter, others on here will take a different view.

Which is what you should do. Whilst they may not act on a single report from an unhappy client, they will keep the info on file and as the reports add up they will eventually take action.

And another point - this is a 2 person company, so I would expect them to have a turn over above the VAT threshold, especially given what they "advertise" as their core business.

Maybe HMRC need to take a look at these chancers........

Good point,

Also you've got a bit more info on them than us Murdoch,
Do they show up on the register of competent persons?

As far as I could tell......... no!

I think the OP's mum needs to ask the direct question of what the companys Competent Persons Scheme number is? and await a response!

I'm sure the link I posted brings up all registered persons, I tried for my postcode and it brought all schemes, even one called Benchmark that I've never heard of before.

The work was done on the 2nd October, so it should of been notified by now.

the comments vary but while calcing it is acceptable it is the lazy way to test

It would be pretty unfair to say that it's lazy given that many bodies state that they prefer it to be done that way.

It isn't prohibited so is perfectly valid and gives a worst case scenario.

M8 of mine went on a testing course with C&G and was told fill in ZS as calculation as it is a dangerous test. But what they did say was that you need to record it as a proper Limitation & as such a full R1 & R2 test should be undertaken to ensure earth continuity throughout (the way r1 r2 should be done anyway).
this was about 18 months ago as part of his scam membership, looks like they are trying to stop some of the live testing due to H & S. we had a discussion together & agreed we would still be carrying out the full tests at it is on the paperwork. deskilling the industry not good, But actually not as it does allow someone to do a bit of maths or use a calculator as long as you have done a course on how to use the calculator & the H & S that goes with it.

The landlord does not need to share it with you as for the burning smell the landlord should address this.
