Discuss OLCI in Administration ??? in the Electrician Courses : Electrical Quals area at ElectriciansForums.net

Drexyn

I just received a letter today from a company called ERR, Engineering Real Results. They state that they are the administrators of OLCI and have accepted a transfer of my contract with them and i'm now bound to their terms and conditions.

I know nothing about this company as yet so i'm concerned about the remaining parts of my training i still have to complete as they have also made a point that i will be hearing from their finance department concerning future payments for my training. I paid OLCI in full so now this is very concerning.

Anyone spoken to these people or know what the script is?

Cheers

Trev

Hi guys.
I too was told I could take as long as I like to complete the course.
I told the salesman it suited me due to my working days/nights/7 day weeks and could not commit to a structured course.
Now I'm out a lot of money and am still paying it off.

Just a reminder to all former OLCI students who are waiting for info from ERR, the action group on Facebook will soon be closed to people wishing to join from Sunday 31st August. If you want to be involved in the group and would like to make your points before we consider any legal options i would urge you to join. Currently we have almost 35 members and this is growing steadily, once we have closed the invite option no more people can join, this is to prevent repeating details once we start sorting our options.

The group name is on Facebook and you can find it by typing in - OLCI/ERR Students

Please note it is case sensitive so type it as you see above.

Many thanks.

Hi all,
I am in the same situation as everyone here!
I signed up to olci fully qualified electrician course finished all my level 3 and had my nvq brief then olci went bust. I emailed err and olci to find out how I was meant to be moving forward however still no reply from anyone! I contacted city and guides to be told that err were doing their best! I finally got a number for a lady call myra from err to be told that they have lost my level 3 stuff and to move forward re read the book and do it again! Luckily I recorded everything I had done and asked for a list of what was missing, I asked for the missing work assignment numbers to be sent to me so I could send in copies and still nothing! To say I am getting very annoyed now is an understatement. Not sure if anyone else found that on signing up were promised £1500 off courses then £1000 off further qualifications so in total £2500 brilliant the only problem is know one wants to honour it! Has anyone found a way of moving forward? Unfortunately I am not on Facebook, is there any way of adding in with the group just via email?

Thanks
will

Have this very morning received welcome letter and course materials from ERR. So able to complete course, starting with a 2 day practical 'mop up'? Set dates which I'm not to happy about as with the nature of my current job I am unable to take days of (teacher). There is light at the end of the tunnel, hope this info helps

alright guys. i was a student with olci but was paying as i was going, didnt pay it in 1 lump sum. just had OLCI on the phone saying that i still owe them money evan tho they had gone into administration. i dont want to pay them anythin as they havent giveme any course material or been able to book anythin in the last year. All i have had is a domestic installer course booklet and cd which was not the course i was doing, any ideas and advice would be great

It should not have been them on the phone. It may have been the administrators but I doubt it. Do nothing, pay nothing, admit nothing.
Come back to us when you have something in writing.

they were calling from olci ltd, which is the new company which has been set up in scotland, they say ERR are dealing with the training and they are dealing with the finance.
the lady on the phone was not helpful at all and just said that if i didnt pay they would be handing it over to a debt colectors as what they have done is fully legal and the contract which i signed needs to be upheld.
but they havent upheld there part of the deal

OLCI are in administration mate, all their staff will have been paid off and their affairs are being dealt with by an accountancy company.
This OLCI are no doubt acting illegally so let them turn it over to debt collectors. You can deal with it properly when you get something in writing. My advice still stands, do nothing, say nothing, pay nothing.
Get back to us when the debt collector's letter lands on the mat. I doubt it ever will.

Besides, if this is a new OLCI then how can you owe them money. Your agreement was with the old OLCI. They're trying to scare you mate, don't fall for it.

That's just admin, all bets are off once the counting's done to Yes!

Hi I have only just found this today. Am I eligible to join the FB group? I & my wife paid approx £6K upfront to OLCI. We are devastated! Can't get in contact with either them or ERR. Has anybody made any progress yet? This is my future going down the pan!
Thanks

Hey Guys,

They are sorting it! I was transferred to ATL from OLCI. It took a lot of hard work my end, being persistent but think I got lucky because I could slot in to a space that had become available. The tutor I spoke to also had to appeal to the principal to get me on the course due to my higher grades which will keep their average up!

Although ERR are useless the good news is now I am training with ATL they have been great, sending out loads of materials of much better quality then OLCI and the support has been amazing as well.

The grass is greener in the long run but I do feel I rang and got the right person at the right time and struck lucky. There is an incredible number of students for them to sort through and work out where everyone is with their qualifications.

Big thank you to ATL for helping me and to everyone waiting, the best of luck!

Hi can you give a bit more info please? Who are ATL? What number did you ring to speak to someone? Sorry to ask a lot of questions but any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Rumblethump: I'll rack my brains, sift through my paperwork and see if I can come up with something useful soon.

Trev: I guess ERR has combined several training providers, not just OLCI into one group. This is another reason why a serious amount of admin is going on combining, not just students from one, but several training providers with existing students. Caution is still well advised but we are all aboard a crazy train and there's no stations! Have heard students who were paying OLCI in instalments say they can't cancel their financial agreement even though most want to cancel and move to another provider to continue their training as quickly as they can.

Teej, if you've taken out a loan with a third party finance company (which appears to be the case with most students) then obviously that will still have to be repaid. You will then have an unsecured claim against OLCI which, if you're very lucky, at the end of the administration/liquidation process you may get a small amount of.
ERR do appear to be taking over a lot of providers BUT unless they are taking the assets and liabilities then any contracts remain with the original companies, any money owed is owed to them and any unfulfilled training contract remains as an unsecured claim against them.
I really wish I could be the bearer of good news but I don't see any way that this is going to happen. The directors of ERR would have to be certifiably insane to be prepared to honour the training liabilities of these now dead companies unless they can offer som sort of income stream for them.
Put yourself in their position, suppose you're now qualified and self employed. Another electrician goes bust, are you going to be prepared to finish any of his work off if he has been paid in full and there's nothing in the pot for you?

Your right Trev, I am the only lucky one and only it seems, I had paid OLCI in full and yet ERR are putting me through all of the qualifications to be fully qualified. As I said in my previous post I think it's my test averages being high and also right phone call to the right random guy who fought my corner!

I should also point out OLCI finance are still going strong as part of OCLI Group who OCLI construction training were part of before going into administration!

I think you might find yourself being the poster boy for them "Doing the right thing" mate. Be very careful if they ask you to do or say anything.
This random guy won't have done this out of the goodness of his heart. You may think I'm an old cynic but it usually serves me well.
I'm just glad someone has come out of this mess ok. Now go and pass all your remaining exams mate. Good luck :)

Here is some information that may help people:

THE FOLLOWING APPLIES ONLY TO FORMER OLCI STUDENTS:

  1. If you have a portfolio and have not already sent this to us please do so immediately. Please send this to the address shown below by special delivery. Once your portfolio has been received it will go through an Internal Verification process which will take up to three weeks. You will then be informed of the Action Plan for completion by post.
  2. If you have sent in your portfolio but have not yet received your Action Plan for completion please be assured that we are dealing with this. Some Internal Verifications take longer than others, often it is necessary for us to speak to the Exam Board or take a further advice from the IV.
  3. If you have received a letter explaining that your course expired with OLCI and would like to appeal against this please write to the address shown below. Please note that appeals against expiry cannot be accepted by email.
  4. If you are a current student and do not have a portfolio please send a letter detailing the OLCI centre and date you attended last, and please include your college number, and we will initiate a search of the OLCI filing system, obtain your records and then contact you. Please allow up to three weeks for this process.
  5. If you have received a letter to attend centre, but cannot attend, please ensure that you cancel via email, using this email address, and include the date you are to attend and your college number.
  6. If you have any other query please use this email address and include details regarding your query and your college number. Please allow 7-10 working days for us to investigate your query and respond.

POSTAL ADDRESS TO SEND YOUR PORTFOLIO OR APPEAL AGAINST EXPIRY. PLEASE SEND BY SPECIAL DELIVERY:

ERR LIMITED
4 KINSBOURNE COURT
96-100 LUTON ROAD
HARPENDEN
HERTS
AL5 3BL

I wrote a letter (option 4) ages ago and listed all the exams I had done and what grade I had achieved. I did have to chase it up with a phone call (before they put all the automated messages on) But if you haven't done this yet I would do it today! ERR do have access to City and Guilds so can check all your progress so any exams you have done already with OLCI are logged. Best of luck to all. Tom
