RCD's wont TRIP!

I changed a distribution board on a TT system to a new one but both RCD's won't trip when i have pressed test. Is it possible both RCD's are faulty? Everything is installed correctly

i think i may be hanging a few nettles yet, im newish to all this and i have no doubt the problems i come across will give me the experience i need

Im sure some ones mentioned this have you done a Ze , what you possibley have is no earth or a very high Ra reading ,if this is the case then the RCD's may not trip due to the high readings when you carry out the Ze the reading on a TT system should be less than 200 ohms , if you look at your RCD's as a set of scales the center being the Earth and the two arms being the L and N , how the RCD works is that it monitors the balance between the earth and live and neutral and any fault situation to earth , the balance is offset then the RCD trips , now if there is no earth then this could be the reason the RCD's are not tripping so do a Ze at the supply see what readings you get and take it from there be nice to let us know what you find

A silly question, but have you done any tests at all on these 2 RCDs with an RCD test kit/multi function tester?? I ask because you have made no mention of undertaking any testing apart from measuring the voltage

Not such a silly question, Engineer54.

It went very quiet here the minute you mentioned proper testing!!!

Does it not strike anyone else as strange that she's checking the installation is energised with the 'kettle test' - didn't see that in GN3, and she's putting a fault on the RFC to test the RCD!!

So what happened to 'Supply Polarity', Ze, Zs and RCD tests..........and she didn't know what a ramp test was??

Competent to swap a CU - me thinks not!

This work is notifiable, by the way, Marie-Claire

Makes you wonder if theres owt in em? I have heard of cheapie "breakers" being sold with nowt but a link wire inside.........

Serious millwall, i think i saw an article on it a while back someware

Glenn I'm sure I saw it posted on here too and if my memory serves me correctly the person who mentioned it was a very well respected member.

May have been MCB's not RCD's though??? Anything is possible though :(

It always amuses me when a female electrician asks a question there is a very quick respones and I suspect 99.9999% of those are males.:29:

Yes - and they're awfully quick with their advice, with very little criticism........if this had been a bloke asking, he'd have been questioned to death on his quals/competence to do this work! ha ha

What you have to bare in mind, lads, is that this is the internet..........so it could be a bloke, anyway!! ha ha
