Re: Tell us about your faults !

found this in a suspended ceiling today. the pics are far from the best as they are off the phone. all the cpc`s were wired outside the jb well it`s original if nothing else. 5 or 6 live cables chopped and left coming out the ends of it one 20 foot away form the jb. the socket was one of the ones that were still wired into it, on .75mm. another quality instal by bodjit and run

Phil, I can definately see the problems there...

In the first image, the dynamic range is too broad for the sensor in your phone, resulting in blown out highlights and blocked-in shadows. The other 3 are probably a victim of your shutter speed being slower than the focal length of the phone's lens, resulting in obvious camera shake :p

Re: Tell us about your faults !

changed cu, rcd tripping on upper ring, test meter showing continuity between the earth and line cable, did insulation test, all pass, so after digging deeper i found that the plumber who fitted new toilet drove a long screw into the line of one leg of the ring and into the earth of the other leg. another one, tested ring in kitchen, line earth fault, broke ring up, found dodgy leg, found screw holding kitchen cabinets was screwed into the line conductor of the cable only.so how would that cause line earth fault.... the damp wall was giving continuity to the earthed metal back boxes of the sockets

Re: Tell us about your faults !

Had a classic today Big nail verses cable , well it all started with a periodic every thing was going well fairlt recent build approx 10 years ,one of the continuity reading seam very low ,2nd floor lighting circuit 0.48 1st floor lighting circuit 0.89 ,something not quite right Main Ze fine ,so comes the IR test ,all ok till i get tothe lights N to E 0.00 mm , then tested another cable but for got to transfer the lead from the neutral and got the same again .the 2 cpcs from the lights had continuity , so back to the low insulation flipped the meter to ohms and 0.05 ohms smacke head against wall time , so fault close to the board ,fault was on the circuit that supplied the 2nd floor lights ,disconnected the ins and outs on the first light tested again still 0.05 ,floors up time floor board nail i say ??? nope could see all the cables 100 mm each end of the joist , then i spotted it , the cables ran up the walls in the corner from ground floor to 2nd floor ,checking the walls all ok no pictures , it was the skirting close to the mains board and yes fixed with large clasp nails 2 of them smack bang through the center of the cable , so as not to destroy decorations i used a 2 gang patress marked and chased behind and jointed the cables in it blank plate and labled , all i can say is it certainley wasnt tested 10 years ago !! and what pillock runs all the cables flat up against a wall for 2 storys ,where some ones bound to put a nail or screw through it argghh

Re: Tell us about your faults !

Had this one today, NIC approved contractor in Croydon somewhere, did a flat upgrade above the place i'm currently working in, in 2004. Took the cover off the adaptable box for the the submain for the flat, at the meter position in the shop i'm in, looks great ;), had to get into contact with the owner of the rented flat 6yrs its been like this, can't imagine how long some stuff goes unnoticed indefinitely! until it goes wrong or gets ripped out.

Re: Tell us about your faults !

Incredible how it wasn't noticed when they screwed the cover on,never mind tests

My stand out fault was a extra large bedroom where there were 3 external solid walls with 3 socket positions,I wont rant on about the faults, only the cause

The" just out of his time" (taking on one of his first self employed jobs)carpenter, fitted all his skirting with no nails adehesive
He drove one 4" nail into each of three long lenghts of skirting, probably to hold it in place till the no nails hardened

Is it worth me telling any more of this story? :( :)
