Hi ALL
Just thought id put this one up for all those faults we find.
heres one to kick it off !
Domestic RCD tripped and wouldnt reset cause was a blown low energy light bulb.:D
There you go now for yours !

Been doing a rewire this week, put one of the boards back down and banged a nail straight through a water pipe. My first time, I panicked, not only this but there are dogs in the house that are hungry for me and has gone for me 4 x this week, the owners had to lock them out the way of me in the kitchen as they were a bit nasty, and this was were the stop cock was.

Re: Tell us about your faults !

Helped a friend out with a rewire few years back as he needed it doing in a weekend and it was quite a big house...grafted our bosums off and got finished at teatime on the sunday.....started clearing up ready for a well deserved pint and I heard a f****g B*&*&*((s come from the gas cupboard....ran to see what the problem was and as I got there i could hear this loud hissing noise....he had only leant on the gas pipe...which was lead ...and it bent and split open...on the mains side.......we both legged it !!!!!!.....an hour later a gang of peeed off gas people turned up...and a bobby....then the owners of the house....luckily it was in it own grounds so no street evacuations:eek::eek::eek:

Re: Tell us about your faults !

About 5 years ago my friends girlfriends mum was doing up her utility room. It was timber clad walls all round.

I was asked to go and carry out a few minor jobs in said room. One of which was to remove the light switch off the timber cladding and relocate it once the timber had been removed. Isolating the lighting circuit I dissconnected the switch and started to remove the patress, when I started turning the screws I heard a hissing sound, so I naturally stopped and removed a couple fo the panels to find what it was.

To my horror whoever had installed the switch had screwed the patress straight into the timber and then into a gas pipe .

Needless to say I isolated the gas and told the occupants to get a plumber in A.S.A.P.

Never get your wife to help!

Wiring my own first house I was getting the usual earache “how longs this going to take”
Well I’ve finished the landing, so if you can you nail the floor boards down for me that will speed things up:cool:
She did a great job 5 nails through a water pipe and 2 through a run of cables

The cable faults showed straight away
The water pipe being lead took nearly a year to rear it’s head. It takes time for the nail to rust and start to weep, pull the board up and you've got Trafalgar Square

Re: Tell us about your faults !

I was called to a telephone extension that was noisy and occasionally gave no dial tone when lifted. Nice simple job, just replacing a faulty voice module, but I am pretty thorough and toned the cable back to the system to check resistance of the pairs and the plug. Toning away rather happily when I found that the cable ran straight over a shower cable and a TV Coax, above a door, quite loosely hung from the ceiling, all casually rubbing together every time the door opened. The telephone cable was worn down to bare conductors and the coax was half eaten too. the shower cable was ok - but given time.......

Imagine that - phone rings so you get out of the shower, turn off the TV and answer it. Which one gets you?

Re: Tell us about your faults !

This wasn't so much an electrical fault... but it was a stupid plonker mistake by me the other day. Was re-wiring lighting, cutting the old conduits with hacksaw under the floor. Last bit left going up to the landing switch, had saw upside down and got sawing. Oh yes, a black identical looking to all the other bits of conduit water main! Was there anyone to help me... surprisingly, yes .... Could I find the stop cock.... suprisingly, yes and did it work... again, suprisingly, yes! Wasn't so bad... 'that one'!

i fitted a shower in a basement flat turned the water off cut the pipe, water everywhere the cold to the sink was connected to the water supply to the flat above! no one in stop tap in pavement was solid.Apprentice's hand went blue after standing thier for hour with finger over pipe while i went shopping for stop end.see they do have thier uses other than carry the heavy stuff!
