The most boaring job going??

O k i will start. Got some remedials afer a PIR and the tonight during nightshift i have to put in 1200 20mm Blind Grommits into sockets. Who else has had mind numbing jobs?

pats testing is the pits. if u do a propper job as i try to do .i try to say no. but if a regular custome i all ways help. just fitted 120 outside lights on several blocks of flats bloody cold .why do we not get these jobs in the summer

"You PAT Tested 5000 items in 4 weeks @7 hours a day" presumed 5 day week = 1.68 mins per test.
of course you did visuals, opened every plug were openable to check connections were tight, cord grip ok and fuse ok ect and did the appropriate electrical test for class all in 1.68 minuets per item.

God, give it a rest trying to prove if sombody was doing a job correctly!!

PAT testing 5000 items in a room with no windows brain dead work

Michelle2909 read the statement he didnt say if there were other people helping there may have been 2 other doing a total of 5000 tests. here is great tip to learn in this trade.

Terminating 232 cat5 tails to RJ45's, both ends so 464 in total.
Got a smaller quantity to do in cat7 soon only 47.

5000 a walk in the park. I know a guy who did most of islingtons councils PAT testing 60,000 items annually 2 teams of guys 600 appliance per shift each, I would have jumped off the nearest bridge . Good on you for getting it done.

PAT testing,defo the most boring,closely followed by downlights,i dont mind a few but 100 in 1 house(every room),i was sick to death of them in the end,glad i have had a change of employer,lots of storage heaters now,they too can get tedious,lol

Noboby has mentioned 3 hour discharge EM lighting I havehad it where its a coms site 1 light in the middle of nowhere get a switch it on get your head down for a kip

Don't talk to me about storage heaters . Council job remove 50 storage heaters and the bricks needed many 15 mile round trips later they are all nicely stored in a boiler room down two flights of stairs. Then two months later when the refurbishment started in the block I had moved them to, 50 storage heaters and bricks ( 4 element heaters) went back up the two/three/four flights of stairs into the old peoples home so they had heating while the plumbers redone all of the flats. Two months later come back remove all storage heaters into a skip. If I never see another storage heater again it will be too soon.

There is no electrical job I've done that can compare with it for mind numbing boredom and monotony


How anybody in their right mind can knowingly do it for a living just boggles my mind

you nailed it des, they're not in their right mind.

My borther is a time served P&D (just out of his time), he wouldn't listen when i told him to get a technical trade. They're suffering like the rest of us though, hes been out for 6 months.

my old boss ,[wally aries]used to say if you can pi$$ u can paint.dont think that strictly true .there is a skill to being a good p&d

there definately is, my nan and grandads house was last decorated about 10-15years ago, and i still cant see the joins in his paper, even on the ceiling. he was a P&D for over 50 years

I wouldn't question the craft skills needed,but I would question their sanity, to want to do it in the first place
