This thread is specifically made for the members on here that are only here to shoot down new guys, hurl snide abuse from afar , and basically dont want any new electricians in the world cos they think they are god gift.

Too many times have we seen new members abused and disheartened by these guys .

So heres a specific thread for you all to have a good moan .

You will always get people who think knowledge is power if that was the case I would not have joined I recently wrote a "so you want to know about alarms" in the alarm section I did not do it because I had an ego to exercise or you could say at 53 I am an old foagy but it is not hard Darwins law is at work here in other words the guys that want to learn will the guys who are lazy will not the thing is you say it is irresponsable but what I have noticed is nowadays its a dog eat dog mentality when it does not have to be I should know as I was on the receiving end of hostility when I had a job because I was too open with my knowledge and that caused jealousy so as I keep saying park your personality before you come on the forum and show a bit of respect and who knows it might change from a angry young man do a decent individual

Skyba, it all depends who you answer the question to.............

I've had some brilliant replies on this site and have had a lot of help. I can see where people are coming from with people who have done a short course and asking questions well advanced on which they should be but when it comes to people like me in my 4th year and I'm basically restricted by the fact that I've not done much domestic work yet this is the area I want to get into I should be welcomed with open arms by all lol.

When I'm long in the tooth I'll be more than happy to pass on my knowledge because that's how others learn and it's how the people who are being a bit moody also learned its just times have moved on and you can learn from people 100's of miles away over the Internet.

I take any sarcastic response with a huge pinch of salt as you'll get them everywhere

I do understand what you saying, but it ends up again, who you answer the questions to, if you post a thgread, you are new, you introduce yourselfe, and in your case I bet if you done that, you never had any bad replies i believe, but as I said you cant just give the answers to 5 week wonders, becouse what is the point, you sort of then agree that it is okay with the way they trying to become a spark, so it does not make sence to strugle 4-5 years for us who desided to go the proper way...

I’m prone to flying off the handle. Two recent episodes will stick in my mind for a while.
I will not condone someone asking is it OK to break the most basic of rules in the book.
If you’ve made a monumental mistake, don’t look to me to give credence to your far-fetched excuse.

If someone wants help with homework, I’ll help but not answer the question.

One thing that particularly annoys me is someone undertaking a job that they are not qualified, nor competent to do, they then come here asking for help. I’m not getting a share of their profits.

Before I joined this board I was and still am a member of an international board. This place is like kindergarten with nanny in charge compared to there. No slaps on the wrist for calling someone an incompetent ******* fraud.

And you sound exactly like the person the op is talking about, you seem like a spark who thinks he came flying out of the womb with all the knowledge installed.
If someone is asking you a question it's because they're looking to learn, not everyone in here asking a question is doing so because they are doin a Job and don't know how to do it, some are asking because they're still learning and wish to have acess to as much knowledge as possible.

There's two ways of learning, asking questions and making mistakes, if you stop asking questions you stop learning and only make mistakes.

I take it when you was an apprentice you never asked a single question and got everything right first time of asking with no teaching whatsoever.

I don't believe that the issue is apprectice trained Vs not. I think it's purely about attitude and reality, sometimes people need to accept that they have bitten off more than they can chew and back off. Sometimes they post nonsense, or display a worrying lack of knowledge and are brought to book (sometimes harshly). Very few people seem to think about searching for an answer instead of asking a basic question. People who's knowledge and experience are hard won get knarky with that as they would on a site.

Someone posted a question about a cable route, and I posted a hasty and incorrect answer which if I'd thought about properly I would never have posted. Tony or E54 wasted no time in pointing out my error in a robust manner (Eddy currents and ferrous metal). No problem with that, I learned to think more before posting and the OP got technical help and information completely free. Everyone's a winner.

If someone is asking you a question it's because they're looking to learn,

Or they are too lazy to look up an answer in the miriad of reference books, online data, and times the question has been asked and answered before.

There's a third, research.

Crikey, 5 pages in 19 hours is some going. It's funny the things on this forum that generate the most posts and get people worked up?

Electrical contracting ain't rocket science, if it was this would be a forum about rocket science and we'd all be rocket scientists with big Tefal foreheads. And if we were that clever then perhaps some of the members might be more eloquent with their grammar and phraseology?

Surely it's quite simple, if you read a thread/post and don't feel it deserves a response, don't post, move on. And if you are a thread poster and feel you are being 'bullied', report it?

If people can't come on to the Forum and ask Questions Imago - Then what good is it?
If they are new they won't know that the subject has been exhausted will they, Does everyone who shares the same opinion as you really want this Forum to become the preserve of only the very well qualified and experienced sparks, so they can chat about complicated electrical theory like a mini I.E.T.

Is there no room for anybody else, I really can't understand why people can't just pass on a thread they don't like, why get all upset and wind themselves up over it? whats the point of posting if it's only to post an insult.

I don't care if its Electrical Trainee, or Trainees, or Newbies, or DIY'ers or anybody else asking a stupid or annoying Question, They deserve politeness if not respect, most of the time it is given to them because by far the greatest majority of posters on this forum are NORMAL people and they DON'T get involved in slanging matches, bullying, bad manners or ignorant and boring behavior, they don't want to push their bad or abusive experiences on site down anyone else's throat, they don't feel the need to prove how clever and superior they are, they don't feel the need to hurt and upset others just to satisfy their own inner need to be nasty, and they don't say 'well, we're only doing it to protect the Electrical trade.

There is however a small minority who DO get involved in the above and they don't seem to realize that their comments and attitude are every bit as offensive and annoying to the rest of us, as the silly questions of the people they are castigating are to them.

Whatever various arguments there may be, as in the posts of this thread, for the presence of Electrical Trainee etc. on this forum, their questions should still be handled in a polite manner, or for what must be the millionth time - don't answer.

If you find yourself unable to respond in any way other than abusive, then I would suggest that the problem lies with you, with your own attitude, and by the way you are damaging the Forum that you profess to love so much.

Rog I would have liked to given your post a double like mate but there is no facility for that.

My views on this are well documented on here so I won't repeat them, just to add is I actually cringe when I read

Get use to it in the real world, toughen up if your on site you'll get worse etc etc.

I worked in the Pits, on sites overseas where just being a Brit was leaving you open and all I can say is there is never an excuse to be rude and demeaning ..............

If some posters on here spoke to people in the real world like they do on here, there is a good chance they would not remain vertical long enough to proffer opinions.

If something winds you up .......don't post it's simple really.

For me I will try and help anyone, if I think they are over their heads or are not technically capable them I would advise them so, but ripping them a new one is not called for ever. Yes I maybe an ole f**t but I was also a young f**t as well.

Of course they can ask questions, I never said or implied that they shouldn't! I along with others will happily try to answer them as far as I can with my knowledge, which isn't as great as others on here. My point is that people are more encouraged when someone asks a question and either gives the results of some testing, or says what they think the answer may be, or says that they've looked it up here or there but can't find the answer. As opposed to posting a question without any thought or effort to find an answer on their own.
