I'd agree with everyone above, never disturb the earth clamp on a lead cable unless there's absolutely no other option.. I'm interested to know what your Ze reading was.

I was going to do it earlier - will do it tommorow. Don't I have to do all the tests in order, or can I just go straight to the ZE ?

I think in this particular case you can go straight to the Ze because the suspense is killing me and Tel ;). Seriously though rather stick to the order of testing you've been taught or as it's outlined in GN3.

Text book answer - on a new installation all circuits should be tested in the corrected order. Ze and PSCC Pfc tested before closing the main switch.

Real world - on an existing installation which is already live you don't need to stick religiously to the order of tests.

Going to stick to the letter of books for a while, cos I have to pass more exams.
I thought ZE was the only live test with with the main switch open.

LOL can't power down the house, at the min.
Will give the measured Ze tommorow Ah ha !

Thanks very much for all the great info and input.
Moving on from the supplier's earth.
The pic below shows Main gas bonding.

Based on the regs I'm convinced I have to upgrade to 10mm
currently there isn't a good connection to the pipe and there's no Label :)
The main water bonding is on a thiner cable and it's connected to the lead pipe.

Asking for continued assistance........
Does anyone one think I don't need to upgrade the bonding ?

The link doesn't appear to work for me.

Can you see it ?

That's better.
Based on the fact it's solid green rather than g/y it's most likely 6mm, as that's what was required at the time when solid green was used.
The clamp appears to have been removed and refitted so may not be a good connection so you may want to replace it and remake the connection with a lug.

Ha ha I hoped somone would ask me that LOL

544.1 table 54.8
My main earth bonding to the Gas and water should be 10mm

514.13.1 no label

What does the title of that table say?

Edit: the title doesn't say what I thought it did!
Read 544.1.1 before using that table

Good thinking - the other side of that is my garage and also where the gas comes in so probably quite a tidy solution if it comes to it!
