I'd like to know if anyone has bought a detector that works. So many bad reports of false reports. I know that interpretation of the tools response is required. I'm basically after a tool (or tools?) that will let me:

1) Trace wiring embedded in walls, be it live or disconnected to map out customers existing routes.
2) To find pipes, wires etc. to avoid drilling/cutting into them under floor boards or in walls/ceilings.
3) Maybe for studs.

Been checking out the Stanley, Zircon, Bosch DMF 10 ranges. Your opinions are invited, really I am looking for a tool to go and buy. Thanks.

i have the bosch dmf 10, sometimes it finds things other times it dont sometimes it says something is there or isnt there and i know damn well it is or isnt because i put it there so no its not too reliable it has its uses but limited.guess we are all looking for something that will do 100% what your looking for but then that will take the excitment away.:)

i got a pile of s£$% screwfix one, was good for the last 3years. untill today i drilled into a mains water pipe. created a waterfall feature in the customers house for 3mins.

I have a ryobi works well but now thats got me thinking about using a metal detector ! that would be intresting to see how deep they can detect cables/pipes ! might look like a pillock though ! only problem is the plastic water pipes well that and the psychiatrist who'd want to have a long chat !
Dont know if any other sites do it but screwfix do customer reviews on most items ! might be worth a look.

Hi.

I had a bosch one a while back. Not sure of the make but t had a stamp on it so when you located what you were looking for you pressed the button and it wouls mark the wall for you. I also supposedly told you how deep things were upto 100mm I think.

Gotta sya I never had much faith in it hence I dont even know where it is now.

Ithink I had the same one!
If I recall bosch bought one out about 3 or 4 years ago that was meant to be able to trace polypipe as well! Cost a fortune and I wasn't willing to risk it! :D

Absolutely correct they hold water, shrouds are totally unnecessary. 20s is 24mm spanner, 20 large is 30mm spanner.
