i was trying to install 2 switched fused conenection units on a ring circuit. at the start of the job i cut through a live wire which tripped the whole db. i connected the fcus ok. then put a socket plate on another one which had been wired ready. when i turned the board on the socket with the fcus has no power anymore this is the one which i origanlly cut through and the new socket has power but every time i test between earth it trips the whole board again... anoyone any ideas?

I’m sorry but this thread is getting out of hand.

Our OP obviously wants free information to get himself out of a situation of his own making. My advice to every one on the board is to leave him to stew in his own juices. There have been offers of help from good tradesmen, non of which have been taken up.

The man’s a fool if he can’t accept help when it’s offered!

Matt4757, I've read some of your other posts where you claim to have C&G2330. If this is the case may I respectfully suggest that you spend your time over the holidays asking yourself if you have made the right career choice as you appear to be blissfully unaware of things that most of us would have learnt very early in our apprenticeships. Your claim that "It's only 230" beggars belief as anyone with even a small degree of electrical training knows it's the current that will kill you not the voltage. As has been pointed out, it will take around 50mA at that voltage to end your life.
Please stop what you are doing now and save your family a great deal of heartache as I'm sure they love you and would prefer to have you around in the new year.

This sounds like another of these posts that starts out with someone stating something that rings alarm bells just to evoke a response, and then tries to keep it going by coming out with even more outrage. It's got to be a wind up.

It's got to be a wind up.

Sadly, a majority of people just do not understand the dangers of electrickery and so these cases just appear over and over again, especially on forums like this...

Little knowledge is dangerous and shortcuts even kill electicians as shortcuts are dangerous too.

It's the old GAS vs Electricity debate again.

now im a 6 week wonder boy,i have a very long way to go i know already,i learnt the hard way on how rubbish these courses are after i signed my money away.Even so,if this kid claims to have a C&G2330 it actually makes me feel so much better. The comment that put things into perspective the most is the one you guys jumped on,and quite rightly so.I think i learnt about the dangers of electricity around the home in primary school,i mean come on,talk about a danger to yourself

in your first post you say your an improver looking to work for free in london..your arrogance to electricity shows no bounds...with that attitude you will never ever make a spark..simple as.

I must be getting old mate, I read his post about getting experience & did'nt pick up on that 1. Hmm Midlands / London, bit of schlepp between.

Ive still not finished yet, still got my full scope to finish, its pretty scary to think some of these guys who im doing my course with are going to be out working on peoples property pretty soon. The collage pretty much go over things once then bundle you out the door with a certificate leaving you scratching your head.In reality id like to get with someone and learn the trade,go back to collage on day release and do things properly, unfortunatly so do the 1000's of other people in the same situation.Fingers crossed for the new year!

Actually I think you'll find that a large percentage of people doing these courses will just go out & start into peoples Electrics without realising that they don't really understand what they're doing or why and to be honest i find that really scary. I'm glad to see that at least some people realise that these courses are only the beginning of the learning curve & not where it stops, good luck with your Course hope it goes well for you. We're allways here if you need help & advice but please don't ask us to give you the answers.
