How does one become an electrician?

It didn’t make any sense ever! Not just anymore!

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

I presume you are talking about my posts. I am not shouting. I have explained my argument numerous times to the point of being immensely frustrated. My argument has never been about whether lumping circuits together is safe; indeed I have admitted that I have done it, albeit for a temporary...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Which would be a non compliance but if it is electrically safe it is allowed as long as you list it in the certificate. I have never said that it’s unsafe to do this only that it does not comply with the regulations. You guys either don’t read the full thread or you are not understanding my...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

The Reg is 314.4. You can run a spur from the OCPD from a ring and comply as it is specifically allowed in BS7671. You cannot comply with BS7671 by bunching circuits such as lighting or radials in the same OCPD. It is non compliant. And just to throw a rather large spanner in the works, the...

How does one become an electrician?

Well now.... I did about 5 years of training in total, including the two City & Guilds courses, and the the C&G tearing as cert course. The regs updates etc etc. And even now it continues. But nowadays I would say you could do the four week course, but a set of insulated screwdrivers, a pair...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

I thought I’d put my input into this thread to rest but I had ten minutes to spare today and this was still bugging me. So I took the opportunity to call the NICEIC technical helpline about it. I have been resurrected! Their view is that the regulation, although short on specific detail, as a...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Yep. Next time i'm in Wales I'll take you up on that.

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

I have never said that it doesn't and as such I cannot give reg numbers. App15 states 'the number of socket-outlets supplied from a fused connection unit is dependant upon the load characteristics, having taken diversity into account'. The regs therefore account for more than one socket after...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

All the appendixes are INFORMATIVE with the exception of app1. It sets out the 'options' (something that may be chosen) of how to wire a type of circuit. It does not give 'examples' (one of a number of things or a part of something, an instance serving for illustration). If it could be wired...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

I’ve said all through this thread ‘loads accepted’ or ‘loads considered’. Lets drop this part as I have accepted this. My argument is not about this, only the make up of a circuit and where it starts. I have said on numerous occasions that two or more circuits that are lumped together in a...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

If course! A C3 if I were doing an EICR. And how can it be a lollipop and also a ring? What would you put under the continuity tests in an EIC and also if the ‘stick’ end is of a larger size what size cable do you put in the EIC?

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Which is exactly why my view is that the origin is the cable and where it connects to the OCPD.

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Because, as Spin helpfully points out, details on how a circuit is formed is in appendix 15. And as we seem to be so intent on dissecting the regs to the nth degree, there is nothing at all that looks remotely like a ‘lollipop’ circuits in app15. Therefore, if it is not in the regulations of...

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

I’m sorry Spin, I cannot see the word ‘origin’ in App15 at all.

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

But I don't see why the smokes are better being fed with another circuit. Is it because people are not likely to switch of a lighting circuit if there smokes are beeping?

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Why then could a lollipop layout be against regs if it is not designed to be a ring final and as long as the OCPD is the correct rating for the cable.

Does this setup contravene any regs or is it ok?

Fascinating thread! So if they were indeed two circuits by design but we can change that by connecting them together at the CU, can we then lump three or four or even more to one breaker, loads considered? Also if you had a long run of say 6.0mm SWA on a 20a OCPD and it was drawing 11a, and...

That's the point! He didn't! Where did you get that definition from?
