Hi, installed a new lamona cooker hood as part of a kitchen refit. Connected to 6a lighting circuit on switched 3a fuse supply. All tested fine, but use any function on hood, and dual rcds trip. Checked wiring, all ok, fused switch is new click, but since not tripping when this is switched on...
I've just introduced myself and have two questions regarding rcds.
I understand these monitor "ingoing and outgoing" power and if there is a sufficient imbalance the system assumes there is loss to earth and trips the circuit for safety.
My questions are:-
1. Is there a natural leakage to...
Hello
I've got a rcd
It trips at 1 times okay but gets greater than 50ms at 5x on one cycle but it's okay on the other cycle on three rcbos out of 5 it's not the circuit I've swapped over the cable what's that mean what will happen
Your carrying out an eicr on a domestic property with a time delay 100mA RCD protecting lighting cables within 50 mm of the surface.
What code would you give it c3 or c2?
Hi,
Just qualified City & Guilds 4555, 2393, 2382 and (EAL) 2394 with Able Skills in January and now a full time handyman - I have no intention of ever rewiring a house, just doing the smaller jobs.
I'm looking to practice at home first and my garage needs a rewire. I'm happy with the...
Could anyone please explain why an RCD is needed outside the equipotential zone, how it operates and also why it needs to operate with in a certain specified time ?
Fuse board with say 80A rcd main switch on a tt system .
I seen guy at work at wrote on sheet as non compliant as rcd main switch should be before fuse board to protect tails.
Is is he correct ,
i would say say no as there's still going to be gap if even if he put in rcd before board
If anyone has time to explain how time-delayed RCDs function, or point me to an article that explains it I'd be very grateful.
I understand the principles behind a standard RCD, just very curious how that same design can then incorporate a time-delay.
Many thanks,
Anyone had problems with these rcds? Control Gear Direct, 30mA, 63A 2 pole..
I recently bought two 10-way dual rcd boards from denmans.. first one had an rcd which didnt trip on test button, even with load removed. Second rcd didnt trip under 300mS, but button worked.
Swapped them for the...
Who makes a TP+N panel, bigger than a consumer unit, for example, 14-way (with space for 12 or 14 three-phase breakers).
It should feed its outgoing breakers using bus bars, not wires.
(I call this a Type B panel)
And it should be usable for Dual RCDs, one for the left side of the panel and one...
Good morning to all.
I believe that, this as being a general question, would be best suited in this section of the forum.
RCDs are meant to trip (30mA) in case of an imbalance of current (I) between the live and neutral.
So, an insulation test will confirm that;
1 - Live to Neutral =...

Got 2 32A RCDs in a CU, each one feeding a respective Megaflo water heater circuit.
At the Megaflo each stat head is wired back through a timer and onto a fused spur. RCD is tripping straight away with cables connected to the stat and stat into element. Dissconnect stat from element and it...
Went to a property today where the lady is having problems with a 30mA rcd tripping during lightning. This is an upfront rcd protecting a small db in a large metal roofed garage which feeds 1)garage sockets, 2)garage lights, 3)electric gates and 4) fish pond equipment. It is the gates being...
Hi Guys,
just fitted four four of these to refurbished bathrooms in a hotel, on testing the push button the unit makes a strange sound and packs up! This has happened to all four, I'm an experienced electrician and it's possible its a faulty batch, has any one had a similar experience with...
