Hi all

Just looking for some advice pls. I've been told that I need a new CU as the existing main switch has the wrong rating. Isn't possible to just change the main switch. Existing CU is Marbo.

Many thanks

To be fair I had my meter changed last year and they down graded my fuse from 80 to 60. The meter man told me they had been told to down grade all the fuses they come to.

But would you work this highly unlikely event that may or may not occur within the next x number of years into an answer to the question posed in this thread?

ahh those good old conscientious meter men hey? alwsays checking main switch sizes an that, just in case the fuse needs downgrading, sometimes they will even put in an extra socket for you ! :)

Wishfull thinking I suppose, but I'm under the impression they are meant to do this and have been doing so for a while now as someone above has said about his meter being changed.

Sadly this sounds like a jobs worth where the guy doing the EICR can feel the power surging through his body then ends up abusing it they secret of having power is knowing you have it but if you do your job right you don't have to use

Change main fuse would be easiest thing to do if your that worried about it, what coding did he put it down to? C3? Did he give you a cert saying unsatisfactory? If not just ignore it as next time meter man comes to upgrade meter he will down grade to 60amp fuse more than likely anyway so don't worry about it.

I'd say swapping the switch would be easiest:90:

1) people pay for the knowledge you do have....
2)not the knowledge you think you have....
3)or the knowledge you dont have.....

i suspect no`s 2 & 3 feature here quite prominantly....that and a liberal sprinkling of the magic `fear dust`....

This would be a stupid policy, wouldn't it? Downgrading all fuses, what about Granny using 7 storage heaters, a leccy shower, immersion htr. etc.? 60A vaporises and leaves her in the cold and complaining.
Some DNO's blanket fit 80A, western power being one example.
Others fit either 100A or 60A, The majority of new supplys have the 100A fuse supplied in the cut-out fitted.
What would be the benefit of fitting 60A fuses everywhere? When I have done metering we have been told to leave them alone if existing and no signs of molten tails etc.

Every DNO has different policies. I'm not saying its right I just stated what happened at mine and what I was told.
