pirhead

Guys heres some news that will give a lot of people a sigh of releif the 2391 as we know it will be abolished by december 2011!!!! Yeah thats right no more 2391, The qualification is going to broken down into three seperate units 1. Initial verification 2. Periodic Inspection 3. Design and Testing Its all part of the new QCF for electricians does anybody know what QCF means :rockon2:

Well if there is substance in this, it's an absolute travesty!!

Just another example of the dumbing down of the qualifications in our industry which only serves to make a mockery of it. I thought the 2391 would remain untouched as the knowledge needed to pass it is essential in the inspection, testing & certification of everyday electrical installations, (particularly PIR's) which at the end of the day IS the most important aspect of an electrical installation as it ensures thte install is safe for the end user.

This mickey mouse QCF nonsense is all about bums on seats and churning out partially qualified installers unfit to cover the range of electrical installations that we encounter daily.

It all seems to fall inline with the new idiot proof EICR.....a tick here & a tick there.....job done. No thought or knowledge seems to be required anymore....just follow the instructions on the box.

This is a very sad day indeed!!!

Totally Agree with all of this as this sets the very high standards within our industry, thats why it is hard to pass as knowledge and experiance is essential, changing this only invites more cowboys to our industry and part P? should also be scrapped

And i suppose these new quals each will cost the same as the 2391-10 so this will make it 3 times more and also make it even more out of reach of most people if paying themselves just sounds like their shifting the skill as said in obtaining the 2391-10 and fiddling to make more money ! what a suprise ! even though if it incorps the 2391-20 (if all 3 obtained) it will still be the price of the 2391 on top i bet !

Well from what I can fathom, all they have done is break the qualification up into seperate bits to make each bit easier to pass on it's own rather than all in one go.

Part 1 - Initial Verification
Part 2 - Periodic

With Part 3 being the design & verification.

C&G does my head in I have thought of doing the 2391-20 as i have done the 2391-10

and according to the pdf the 2391 cant be migrated over to the new framework

I had the same problem with enrolling for the 2330 lv3 they said they were ending it as i decided i needed to do it so spent over 6 months trying to get on a course and contacting C&G to see if it was indeed ending march 2011 they kept telling me it was even though i was getting conflicting reports to say it would be extended
I have tried for yrs to get on a course like the 2330 at whatever level

so I tried every college within 100 mile radius and on the last day of registration 31.3.11 at 3.30 pm got a phone call to say i could have a place if i could get there for 4 evn though its a 30 min drive and it was rush hour got there enrolled paid fee and got home to find out it had been extended
and a email of C&G the following day to apoligise as they didnt know one way or the other if it was being extended they had told me on the days leading upto the last day of registration including the last day that it was ending

also i had to enrol for nvq lv3 2356 as this was also due to end 31.3.11 so i paid and registered for this on the 23rd of march to find out this to had been extended JOKERS

now i find out they are ending 2391 and if i dont get on the 2391-20 i will miss out on this
C&G dont have a clue how this affects the individual and how hard it is just to get a simple answer from them

so now i am left with do i enroll for 2391-20 as well as trying to complete lv3 2330 1 evening a week and 2356 NVQ

ARE THEY HAVING A LAUGH money grabbing useless ??????? beep beep beep

mate i am sick of dealing with C&G and there system and the colleges and providers arent much better

so now if i dont register for the 2391-20 i will miss ot on that
whichever bright spark thought of replacing 2391 and the other existing quals should be shot at dawn with the useless government and the former government
and the idiot that invented part p

Hmm ive had agencys call me, and no matter how much i tell them im competant to test, they just wont accept me for a certain number of jobs because its strict on 2391 qualified

All the more reason to take the 2391, then.

How do you expect agencies/prospective employers to believe you are 'competent to test' without anything to back it up.
The 2391 proves competence, that's why it's so difficult to pass.

How do you measure your 'competence to test', by the way?

Out of 15 or 16 experienced electricians who took the 2391 with me, all of them thought they were competent to test.

They got a big shock when only 7 of us passed.

IMHO the only people who will be glad to say goodbye to the 2391 are the ones who couldn't pass it.
