Hi all, I'm after some thoughts on moving a meter and main fuse, the fuse and meter is mounted on a board which is obviously screwed to the wall. There is roughly 2m of incoming armoured above ground, so what are your thoughts on pulling the fuse, disconnecting the tails coming out of the meter relocating the the board where I need it then reconnect? I know there's issues with tags but the sparky that put the new c/u has already cut both tags on the fuse and meter to upgrade tails, I can't really see any problems because I'm not having to do anything on "there" side, what are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Adam

Shall we have a sweep Tony? Quid a pop. I'm going for 5 because I think it's a pretty small space that it's in just now.
He'll break his spine and ribs on against a wall
I'm such a cheerful soul tonight.

I’m going for 4 foot and the loss of a hand. So that’s 3’8”.

You're getting around a bit tonight Tony .... have you just had yer wheelchair serviced?? ;)

Pink Minx has me on an exercise regime.

Aye .... Tidyboiler had me on one of those - it started at 11:00 pm last night & finished at 9:30 this morning. I'm pleased to report the steroids the vet prescribed for me are working well:)

If it IS that awful lead stuff

Which lead stuff is awful, exactly?

High level board with 3x 0.0225 PILCSTA service cable (typical 1930s 3-wire DC service) running up the wall. One day, during rewire when nothing was connected to the CU, the board fell off the wall bending the service cable back on itself above the next saddle and smashing the meter. Turns out wooden wall plugs had woodworm and suddenly let go of the screws while there were no finals in the top of the CU to hold the board up.

DNO jointer came out, straightened the cable and dressed it neatly back into place, fitted new meter, job done. Tougher than it looks to the modern XLPE-trained eye , within certain specific limits.

Well we made love in the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, both bedrooms and on the new carpet. I don't understand why the manager at Ikea threw us out!!! :ciappa:

Tony, I don't think I asked a stupid question, I've never come across an issue where I have had to move the board, I know your not supposed to cut the tags but they have already been cut by the previous sparky, so would the dno really be that bothered if I moved the meter board? Is it something they would take really seriously? I don't know why your getting on your high horse, u could of just said "do it if you think you can without creating problems" or "no leave it well alone". I've not asked for any info on how to do it or anything technical so what makes you think your any more trained than I am?

Tony may well know more than me, I don't claim to know it all he's probably got many more years on me, but I don't think I've gave him any reason to call me a diyer. All I asked was for people's thoughts on moving it

It's your original post which made you look like a diyer to everybody!

You wrote about the 'incoming armoured' which any electrician would know is not an armoured cable.

You wrote about 'the spark who fitted the CU' which reads as though you have employed the spark to do this and are now doing some DIY as a follow up.

But still no reason to be rude or arrogant if you want to help then help if you don't want to help then don't post ,what could be easier than that
