Re: Tell us about your faults !
Got called to a job yesterday. House owner said that when he shuts the front door, the lights flicker!! Kid was in the front room watching the telly (on full blast!) and all the lights were on. Shut front door behind me and the lights flickered and the telly...
Agree with Des. In domestic work, I feed the smokes from the ground floor lighting circuit via a keyswitch near the CU for isolation. Why this gets asked so many times beats me, seems simple!!

calv,
When I had my van MOT'd the other day, it passed but I had a couple of advisories. Surely this is what the pir is, an electrical MOT. It would be nice for us that, when the regs change, the phone rings off the hook with people wanting to upgrade :) But we all know this does not happen...
So, if the original installation met the regs at the time it was put in, it must have been safe. So why is it now unsafe?? Look at it this way. There are a lot of vintage cars on the road, they do not meet current regulations, but they are not scrapped, are they? No. So, if the installation does...
Pete,
The good old nic would have you go around the place, switch everything on and measure the current. Great. 1 hour later, when it gets cold, out comes the 2.5kw heater. Now what has happened to the max load?
Use the old rule of thumb, 100a main fuse, 80a max load, 80a fuse, 60a max, 60a...
NoSparks,
That is what I was trying to get across to the OP, is it sound and are the measurements ok. If they are, it doesnt matter what the material is.
Steve.
Jason,
I think your dno is talking BLX!! Never heard of only 2 phases being available! (But willing to be corrected!!)
mrloy,
Great explaination, nice! ;)
Steve.
Nick,
I assume that the conduit is SUITABLE to be an earth, that the connections to the conduit are SOUND AND that they are visible AND give the correct readings for an earth then put steel. If not, you need to run a seperate conductor. Same with the swa, is it terminated correctly at BOTH...
Yep, standard 2 phase 3 wire install and common on farms agri etc. As others have said, treat as 3 phase unless both phases are being used, ie 2DB's, then as 2 seperates.
