The one main reason that puts me off having an apprentice, is the actual work. I'm fairly busy at the moment, and hope to be for the foreseeable (touch wood) but if that phone doesn't ring and work drys up you still have to pay whoever.
I wouldn't completely rule the idea out in the future but...
Haha that would be an interesting topic actually on here...
Whats everyones finds out on their jobs?
When i was an apprentice doing a re-wire, we came across a newspaper almost intact from 1903 - customer took it off our hands though!
If you only very lightly touch the MCB and it trips its a knackered MCB so you've done the correct thing ordering a new one.
This to me tells me that the MCB has been exposed to overload for quite some time. More investigation work is needed on the circuit. What size conductors are they, can...
My vans racked out ... but still used to having everything all over the spot. Especially on re-wires where you empty half the contents of your van into the gaff - then at the end of the day or end of the job if leaving on site they all just get thrown in (fatima whitbread style)
I really...
Reading through all this i agree with the above. Seems to me like its overload, and the increased overload over weeks, months, years ect.. has knackered the MCB to the point where it trips far quicker than it should.
You can normally get a feel for an MCB with the trip button, if it feels loose...
That was my reasoning for not joining them, I have been Elecsa member but have recently switched to Napit due to them being cheaper.
Depending on who you're clients are, you'll find that the average home owner doesn't even know who the NICEIC are.
Quite scary the fact anyone could write...
I realise this. I calculate myself, but where possible and practicable i prefer to get a direct measurement. Like you've said, its not rocket science to plug a tester in ... it shows laziness and/or a lack of understanding.
I'm going to have disagree with you here to a certain extent mate.
If we all posted pictures of our work, then yes, it would get scrutinised. Poor workmanship isn't a crime unless it effects the safety of the installation. But yeah, i agree, work should be neat and tidy and some peoples...
That comes down to people been told - Zs by measurement is dangerous (i still laugh when i type that) apparently even apprentices going through their time are told this at colleges. Anyway, quite a lot of todays society will take this as gospel and not ask why. Therefore having probably know...
Nah husband and wife team ... says Denise and Sergio on the OP's receipt, and without being stereotypical i can't see there being many Denise and Sergio electrical duets around.
Basically they're Electrical Trainee's gone self employed straight away ... if it's the same people, operating in and around the...
Just scrolled back to page 4 with the dogs dinner pictures of the install ...
He put meter tail upgrade on the CU ... now correct me if I'm wrong but they look like 16mm tails to me ?
Also, OP - is there a sticker on the CU stating when it was tested and a recommended next test date? Because...
Just a thought ... the OP did start off by saying they'd been given absolutely no paper work on the CU change ...
Then requested it ...
Would not surprise me, with the state of that, if he's thought oh ---- and just made it up at home and tried to guess/remember what was installed at the property.
