I have very nearly completed a rewire of a two bed-roomed bungalow, as this was a friend of mine I charged ÂŁ1400 all in, not a bad price as it took two of us a week (I have been paid already). since I have not been there for the last week the plumber has told the lady that he has spoken to his electrician and I have broken every rule in the regs and has threaten to get an inspector in unless I give ÂŁ500 cash back tomorrow.
Candie is in the middle so unsure if to believe the plumber or me.
the thing i have done wrong are.
not taken fly leads to the back boxes,
the boxes have not got grommets, this is something I always do but I did not have any on the first fix I was going to do it on second fix but my mate connected the sockets up I totally forgot about it (but is that against the regs?).
there are a few cables close to the surface all in the correct zones I have bonded/ undercoated with plaster, when the finished cote is applied they cables will be fully concealed.
and that is the minimum distance for a socket from a tap.
please be honest with your answers as I will print this off tonight and will be going around tomorrow with it tomorrow.
I have offered to correct the problems (for nothing) but have been told by the plumber that his electrician will do it and finish the work and testing for ÂŁ500. and he doesnt want me in the house again just the money and the key.
please give your views asap, and what could happen if a inspector did come around to see the problems if I cant cant sort them I am currently with elesca.

thanks and sorry for the long post :)

there is one issue I haven't connected the water or gas bonding, the last day on the job the water was just a tap ready forAndyAndy to take it to the boiler, and the gas was lead, Andy was in the
processd at the mains) I know this will cause me a massive problem if it is an

official council inspector.
now that may cause you a few problems

if no inspector turns up i will!!!! readily clad with a pipe slice and test gear!!! always wondered what it would be like to circumcise a man with his trade tools prior to seeing how much IR his body puts up to before he crys!!!

get the plumbers business card or number!! might ask for some quotes for duck pond foutains and some emergency "water" leaks at 2am !!! :)

I do like the lenny's idea of a welcome commitee, there's more inspectors on here than you can shake a stick at. A visit from the forum might allow the plumber to reconsider his position

I got a call earlier on. Andy was being alright with me but wants me to correct the things that his mate has pointed out. (as I guessed no council involved)
from the call he noted.
disconnect sockets and switches to install grommets
fly leads to every back box
see if i can move a switch its about 1500 away the sink but that is too close? I think not.
install a 4mm earth from the mains to the boiler and do all the cross bonding? I didn't think this was required any more.
he also said I can clean the black **** off the incomer and stick a EC15 around the lead to provide an earth. I told Candie a few weeks ago that she needed a pme I think this has now been canceled. Ive only been an self employed for 8 months but have been working for 8 years, my last boss always had a pme installed, I thought this was the job of the
electricity board, not a ÂŁ1 EC15 .

tell him to poke the fly leads!!!
tell him to poke the switch move!!!
PME is the supply company as they need to do checks to see if your supply can be transfered!!!

grommets!! yeah got point!!

boiler cross bonding!!! does the flaming plumber not able to do his own work!!
and boiler is earthed via the supply cable to it!!

didi you get the sparks registration number??? / company name/ his name!!!

i would definitely call the plumbers bluff. if he has been advised to fit an ec15 clamp on incomer then alarm bells are ringing.

so this inspector didnt pick up on the bonding missing

find out who this other spark is and tell him to foxtrot oscar ;)

only thing i would do is fit the grommets

just re read the post, are you saying theres no earth at incomer at the moment either

depending on you DNO, they might come round an give you an earth, more than likely they will ask you to use an electrode, I certainly wouldn't clamp the cable (even though we all have at some point). The information you are getting from the pipe muncher is from somebody who probaly last read the regs back in '81 it's out of date and he should be told. If you are confident that you have satisfied the relevant regs, then that's enough. Somebody really ought to tell this plumber-spark ensemble!

actually tell him that his pipes are going up hill and his qualityof soldering is very poor that he has caused dry joints!! demand ÂŁ700 quid back and tell him your getting building control in!! also deflate his tyres!! or drop a box of screws under his wheels!!

sure...! im happy to make a day trip out of it..!!! i bring the rod and you bring the mallet !!! and we can connect a wandering earth via the plumbers ---!!!

get the work in signed off and have elecsa send the letter of conformity!!! simples!!!

I was working away today so I dont know who it was. just got a call from the plumber. I will do the work as candie is a freind and worries about what he said. I will do what is on his list, It may do more harm that good to sort the grommits, but the plumber thinks he and his mate knows best. one more day and I can forget about the job, its worked out less then ÂŁ9 per hour after before tax:(.

the grommet situation!!!

if the cable is movable in the enclosure fit the grommet!! if the plaster has nicely filled the gaps and the cable is ridgid i would sod it off!!! cables dont just move in walls them self so dont wotty about it!!

tell the plumber to sod off!!! actually give me his number and i will do it for you!! i will question his technical knowledge and his suitable qualification!! :)
